After I run the dishwasher, water stands at the bottom and it smells. I have had the dishwasher for five years. The washer seems to be working properly it's just that water stands at the base of the washer. Is it normal for water to always stand there?

no it's not normal, you are probably having some cloge in the drain pipe, you could try with a pice of wire to pick it up or hose it down, or use some comercial unplaguners like mr. muscle or something like that, i think that this would do the trick
