I also have a Garmin 670 that would freeze on me every once in a while. The very first time I tried to calibrate it to no avail. It seems that if I don't use it for a few days the problem would recur. I suspected that the memory that stores some critical data does not hold because of the low battery. I then used the charger (the one that uses the electric outlet in the house) to charge it. Three days lalater, I realized that the charger was still charging the unit. Without much expection, I turned on the unit and it worked surprisingly. Since then everytime the screen freezes, I would charge it in the house for a couple of days, and it would work again.
You might just need to recalibrate the screen. Start by getting to the SETTINGS > DISPLAY page. Select RECALIBRATE and follow the directions.
