Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

No picture On several occasions when I switch on my 360 there is a problem with my picture. Its almost like when the horizontal hold is not set, but the screen is black as well with some purple faint diagonal lines and a few white ones scattered about. after playing around with the scart inputs and switching them around a bit I have managed to get it working again and so I assumed it was a problem with the scart input on the tv, even tho the freeview plugged into the scart socket the xbox was in still works. Today while playing Assassins Creed the game locked, said the disc was unreadable and booted out to the dashboard and then now have the black/ purple screen. Any ideas?

Re: No picture

This is almost identical to what happened to my system just before it gave me the red rings. I had to return my system. There is general hardware failure. The last lvl in assassins creed kept dropping me thought the map then i would get a checkerboard of purple and black squares all over my screen.

If you have a warranty i would return it to the store you bought it from and get a new one if not contact MS and see if they will cover it under there warranty. Since its a GPU failure i would think they would fix it for free but i cannot say for sure. They did extend there warranty on overheating which sounds like what has happend to yours to three years.

How do u reset your xbox format to pop up on your tv?

If you're using the XBox 360 component/compositve AV cable, try the switch at the base of the cable to switch from HD to SD or vise versa. If that doesn't work, try MS's official reset instructions:

To reset your display settings, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure there's no disc in the disc tray.
  2. Turn off the console.
  3. Turn on the console.
  4. Note If you're using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, make sure only one wireless controller is connected to the console, and then turn off and restart the console by using the Guide button on that controller.
  5. As the console starts, press and hold Y while pulling the right trigger on the controller. The display settings are reset to the default settings, and then the console automatically restarts.
Xbox 360 E or Xbox 360 S console: To reset display setting on these console models, you can also just turn off the console and then hold the power button on the front of the console down for about 10 seconds. (The lights will flash several times.)

My 360 will not play black ops. i have tried many new disc and nothing works. it will read other games but this one.

Try downloading the game to your hard drive and then taking out and putting the disc back in. If it says open tray several times in a row, try making the xbox vertical instead of horizontal.

Leaving rings on games .games will not play

scratching rings into cd means don't put anymore "important CDs" in there try switching how the 360 is sitting see if you can't run a blank CD in it when its set on side (opposite to side its on being vertically or horizontally)

I bought my 360 about 8 months ago and lately I have to turn the power on and off at least twice to get a picture or audio, and every once in a while the red light comes on. The console has severely...

one make sure your system is not not sitting at an odd angle, like leaning up against something. also check all your cables and connections to make sure they are tight. the 360 is designed to either lay horizontally or vertically but not at angle either 90degrees vertical or horizontal because any other way the system will not be stable and can damage your games. also you may want to try a diffent HDMI cable if thats what your using. it may be causing your issues as well

To troubleshoot sound without picture issues, follow these steps:
  1. Reset the resolution of the console to 640x480. To do this, start the console, hold both triggers, and then press and hold the Y button as the console starts. For more information about how to reset your display settings, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 911059 ( ) How to reset your Xbox 360 console display settings to the default display settings If you see a picture on the display after you try this step, you can continue to use the 640x480 resolution, or you can try to use a higher resolution setting. If you still cannot see a picture, continue to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the VGA HD cable from the display, and then remove the console power cord from the power outlet.
  3. Wait five seconds.
  4. Reconnect the console power cord to the power outlet, and then turn on the console.
  5. Reconnect the VGA HD cable to the display. If you can see a picture on the display after you try this step, you can continue to use the 640x480 resolution, or you can try to use a higher resolution setting.

Picture will not show

You might want to try the following:

1. make sure that the AV cable is not loose or incorrectly seated in both the Xbox 360 console and the TV
2. make sure that you have the correct AV cable for your TV, to verify that the AV cable is connected correctly to the Xbox 360 console and to the TV, disconnect the AV cable and then reconnect the AV cable to both devices
3. if you are using composite cables, do not try to set any HDTV settings because you may lose the picture
4. make sure that your TV is set to the same video broadcast system as your Xbox 360 console (PAL or NTSC)
- if your Xbox 360 console is an NTSC console, make sure that your TV supports NTSC
- if your Xbox 360 console is a PAL console, set your PAL settings to PAL 60
- if your TV has a type of picture compensation enabled, disable it
5. reset your Xbox 360 console
- Remove any discs from the disc tray
- Turn off the console
- Turn on the console
- As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time
- The Xbox Dashboard resets the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console.
6. Do not take your Xbox 360 console or its accessories to your retailer for repair or for service unless an Xbox Customer Support representative asks you to do this

Game not working

Hello, I have an Xbox 360 and after several exchanges from the three death, to what i have heard and seen here lately is don't set the console in the upright position, vertical, it needs to lay horizontal, so the disk tray opens and a game will lay in it. If the warranty label hasn't been tampered with x-box has a five year warranty, so the unit can be replaced free of charge, Xbox payes for it to be shipped. Make sure you follow the instructions and remove everything, cause they send a core back to you, that's it! The only other assitance I can provide is that while the tray is in the open postition check the tray area with a flash light to see if something just happened to get in there, plastic will stick to a DVD and then you load that DVD and plastic in there. 1st step lay the xbox 360 on its horizontal side, check tray area for debris, if problem has no change call X-box 1-800-4myxbox. I hope this has helped and I looked forward to helping in the future, Thanks

Xbox 360 has sound but no picture

you may have already checked this but is the switch on your video cable set to the right output type? There is HD and TV so you may have it set to the wrong one. Hope it's that simple...
