The copier is showing a paper jam on the left hand

Check the exit sensor,clean the fuser parts and the transport rubbers,change the oil supply roller,and check the exit lever functions.

There are a number of possibilities, there might be a piece of paper blocking one of the jam sensors or the sensor involved is defective. But experience wise, the first is most likely. As you said, the indicator is on the left, presuming you mean the panel indication's left, check the output section which is the fuser unit. Most jams occur on this section.
