ge side by side (psh25sgsa 3 yrs old) and the ice melts every few weeks in the freezer. Empty out the ice and everything is fine again for a couple of weeks. Checked the coil underneath and everything is fine. The fan in the freezer is a little noiser than usual. Something tells me it's related to the main control board. I heard that GE had a recall for defective control boards, but cannot find anything on GE's website.
Yes , your main control board is on the recall list , however , that is not the problem . The problem , is the #4 and/or # 5 thermistor . The #4 , tells the control board , the temp of the coils , when to defrost , and when to stop defrosting . The # 5 , tells the control board , the freezer temp . Both thermistors work together , relaying information to the board , to act on . The # 4 , is behind the inside rear freezer panel , clipped on the top , left side of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . The # 5 , is located behind the bottom freezer crisper , slid inside a small housing , also with 2 white wires going to it . The part number for each thermistor is WR55X10025 . I would replace both thermistors .
