I think you flyback transformer is going out. Eventually it won't come back when you hit it.

- Have a Service Tech change it for you. You can change it but it will shock the day lights out of you if you don't follow procedures like unplug TV and place a resistor across certain pins. Are you good with electronics and electricity? Just do some home work and get instructions before you do the job. I like the service tech idea because, they always will do additional checking on the set for you for free. It shouldn't be that expensive of a job. A tech could do it in less than a half hour. It is also possible a connection problem or a EEprom connection Vpos problem so, I'd just have the service tech do it. Besides they also have the service manual.Yes

If you are indicating that the picture collapses to a horizontal line (side to side) then this has absolutely nothing to do with a flyback. Since it does respond to impact, there must be a bad solder connection on the main board. If horizontal, it will be in the area of the vertical driver IC. It will get worse until it fails altogether, but it is easier to find at that point.

- The solution of course is to repair the bad solder joint. There are some parts in the area of the vertical IC that run rather warm, as evidenced by circuit board discoloration. Check the soldering at those parts first. If nothing stands out, just resolder those parts to elliminate them as being a problem.Yes
