Problem for Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2

So, I'm in the middle

So, I'm in the middle of playing guitar hero 3 on my computer, then I get a blue screen. I reboot, and I get a bluescreen, rinse repeat. Long behold, I probably have a boot sector virus. So, I grab my xp disc that I normally use, and go through and begin the setup / repair process. The repair process beings, and I get a cyclic Redundancy Check error, then my computer reboots. I try several more times to get the disk to work with the same result, so I pull it out of the disc drive, and there's 3 large chunks of the film on the top of the disc missing. So, I make myself another boot disc, and try it. Then the install cannot find ASMS. I try several times to point the install to the ASMS portion of the boot disc, but it won't read the disc. I try looking about on the internet for awhile to figure out what I can do, but most of the posts I read don't help. Furthermore, XP has decided to go into a 'setup is restarting' loop, as in all XP wants to do now, is try to repair and reinstall windows, it won't boot to the HDD no matter what I do. I have, however figured out how to get DOS, Regedit, and the Windows Hardware, - being able to browse my hard drive through regedit, loading hives. Here's the kicker, I could have simply used my xp install disc to fix my boot sectors by pressing f6 to load 3rd party drivers from the disc. Now I'm stuck, indefinately in this loop, and I cannot figure out how the **** to get out of it. I am simply, frustrated. Comments: Oct 30, 2009 - I've tried those solutions via searching the web. None of them worked. I've disconnected everything except keyboard / mouse. No USB is connected to the computer, stripped down bare-bones. I would rather not format as I would lose important Data. All I want to do is stop the loop from happening and repair the boot sector. - I can hold shift and press F10 to open the cmd prompt in the windows xp setup, however after running the CHKDSK /R and pressing Y, It says 'This volume will be checked the next time the system restarts'. I try restarting and it goes back to 'setup is restarting'. The problem that first needs to be rectified is the infinite loop with the 'setup is restarting', and after that the boot sector. I cannot do anything with my OS untill this is fixed. :( - When I cancel the setup / repair the error is as follows 'SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "E:\I386\asms\1000\MSFT\Windows\gdiplus\gdiplus.man" on line 4 Error: Installation failed: E:\I386\asms. Error Message : Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

- I'm in an infinite loop that I cannot get out of. With every reboot of my computer, I come to a screen that says 'Setup is now restarting'. Once that is done, I come to the installation area for windows xp, and it prompts me for my xp disc which I put in the drive. I have made sure the disc works, there are files that cannot be found on the disc (this is a legit copy of xp). I cannot progress from here, all that happens is reboot, repeat.

Clarification Request

Hi you need to boot to the recovery console by booting of you CD. when you get the option "Press any key to start setup..) press a key and setup will start. On the first menu you will see a few options ,to setup windows press enter to Repair press R (press R at this point to load the recovery console) Select your windows installation ,it should be 1.so enter 1 and press enter. At the DOS prompt try the chkdsk /r option from there and not from the Shift+F10 one. (If chkdsk says that there are unrecoverable errors on the drive then your harddrive will have to be replaced.) When completed type in fixboot.say yes when you are asked to create a new boot sector then type in EXIT to reboot the computer. You will have to let windows finish the repair process. If you still get the error then try with only one memory stick if you have two and vice versa. To try and bypass the repair setup try to rebuild the boot file by starting the repair console again and this time typing in bootcfg /rebuild. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000648.htm

As you are accessing the internet you must have another computer. If so, remove your hard drive install as slave in the other machine backup your data and reformat. If you do't have another machine maybe a friend could help.
