how do you remove the switch to re-attach the cable

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2008

I pushed the start button and it started to start but didn't sound right. Then it slowed and quit. I thought I could smell something before I got it unplugged. Now nothing. I've only had it for a couple of years. Is this the motor bad. Is this common for the famous Dyson Animal??

First, check your outlet for power...plug something else in. Then, inspect the cord and check the power switch. You can use a multimeter to test across the power plug of the vacuum in the ohms position. Turn the switch off and on. If it does not change readings...the switch or cord is bad. If it does, it might be the motor.

My dyson dc07 wont turn on

Hi Mike, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC07 shut off while you were using it, and now will not turn on again, it may have overheated. Most Dyson vacuums are equipped with a thermostat which will shut them off for protection if they begin to overheat. This can often be due to a blockage, or because the filter needs a wash.

However, if it's been over 24 hours and the vacuum still won't run, it's likely there's a fault elsewhere. We'd be happy to help you check for this - you'd just need to give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson stopped working

There are three things that "stop" (no noise anymore) a DC07 working. I will list them in order of the most common to least common faults.

1) The motor is burnt out. Caused by over filling and not cleaning the filter regularly. You must replace the post motor filter when getting the motor replaced
2) The power cord has failed. This can usually be seen by visually inspecting the cord for damage.
3) The on/off switch has failed.

All of these faults should be repaired by a licensed sparky for safety reasons.

Dyson dc07 is making weird noise

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC07 is making a popping noise in use. Unusual noises can be caused by a number of different issues, and in order to determine exactly what's causing this we would need to hear it. I'd encourage you to call our freephone customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US). One of our experts will be able to listen to the machine over the phone and diagnose the cause of the issue.

We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Jack

Dyson dc07 suddenly lost all power. Bad power

This could be the switch, but could also be the motor.
The motor has a built in over-current protection device which normally automatically resets itself, but if the motor has had it, it then just cuts out again as soon as you switch it on.
Both the switch and motor are available quite cheaply on eBay, but fitting new ones requires good DIY skills (especially the motor), and some unusual tools (Torx drivers).
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some great info on repairing your machine, but if you dont feel you can repair it yourself, time to call a vacuum repairer or the Dyson helpline.

Hi my dyson dc07 animal has suction but the brush bar wont turn. If I turn it on there is a horrible noise. The belt is still fine

The belt is probably worn or stretched. When this happens the belt won't turn the roller brush when it is against the carpet. Here is a link for the manual and links for the belt you need:

Even thought the belt may look fine the belt still can be worn and therefore no turn the brush or the clutch. The belts you need are these here:
