My router has developed a problem with wireless acess. When I view the available networks, on any system with wireless capability, I see all my neighbors, but can only see my router occasionally, and cannot connect through it. The settings are WEP, shared key, 64 bit, running on channel 6. It used to work, but for some reason, it doesn't show up in the available list anymore. I've turned the unit off overnight, but the problem is still there.
Does wireless gateway functionality fail? Is there any way to fix this?
I cannot pick up an internet connection from this router, through Belkin Wireless airstation(c) dongles, but my dongles can pick up everyone elses connection. sometimes i find it during the evening, but this is a problem as i need the internet during the day also. please help, thanks

channel 6 is very common with 2.4ghz wireless phones. Try changing the channel to a different one ie. 2 to -5 is rarely used so i suggest one of those. Also WEP is very insecure and easily hacked. If the only risk is people stealing your internet then i suggest you use MAC filter as the most secure way and turn off wep. This will make your router and internet surfing experience even faster.

Are you using the WZC on your WinXP computer of the wireless adapter's software utility? Try to reboot the computer and check on the system tray if you will see the computer icon with a red X, right click it and select view available wireless networks, if it cannot see anything... Go to Start, All Programs and look for anything that pertains to wireless adapters open the utility and refresh the list of wireless networks available.... if you see your wireless network name, select it and hit connect

After upgrading the firmware open the ports for the x-box with the ip address of same as that you have on the x-box and then try for the connection test.
The Tick light should only come on when the netgear first starts, and when all the checks are complete and OK, it goes out. First, make sure you computer wireless is turned on, Next, go to the lower right of your screen to the system tray where there should be a monitor icon with an"X" on it. Right click and select "View available wireless networks". Select your router name and click "Connect" You should connect and be able to get on the web. If you set up security, select your network and click connect. Type in your KEY and then you should connect to the web.

1. Go to 'Control Panel', Click on Classic View in the left hand side menu and then open 'Network Connections'. 2. Right-click on the wireless Network Connection icon and select 'Properties'. 3. To establish a wireless connection between the router and computer, the router’s wireless setting (SSID or Network Name, Channel, and Mode of communication) has to be configured. Please follow the steps below to configure the wireless settings on your NETGEAR router.
Connect a computer to the LAN port of the router using an ethernet cable.
Open up a browser and type in the following URL: http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 (depending on the model number of the router)
Type the Username as admin, and Password as password. Then click OK.
To change the Wireless settings, click Wireless Settings under Setup on the left menu bar.
Under Wireless Network, (make a note of these settings, you need these values to configure your wireless clients)
Change SSID from default NETGEAR to any desired name (for e.g. Home)
Select the Region as applicable - Incorrect selection may cause performance problems.
Select any one of the available Channel.
Apply the changes
Configuring Wireless Clients: The steps explained below use the Windows XP wireless client. If your card came with
its own wireless configuration utility, you may use that as well.
Open the Control Panel from the Start Menu.
Right-click Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.
on the Wireless Networks tab and if unchecked, check the box for Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
Then click OK.
Right-click on Wireless Network Connection, Select View Available Wireless Networks
This will lists all the available wireless networks in range. Select your network from the list and click Connect.
If you are connecting to a secured wireless network, you will be prompted for a Network key. Type the Network key (if you are using WEP security, make sure you are typing the network key, not the Passphrase) and click Connect
Your network list should now display your connection status. If you are connected and your router is setup for internet access, you are ready to connect to the Internet wirelessly.
At the bottom right hand corner of your screen, you have a wireless conenction icon. right click and view available wireless network...if you see your network there. connect to that network, if secured, then call netgear to verfiy what is your network key. if it is unsecure then you can log on right away.
