Hello. Often any quality problem on a DVD makes many DVD players lock-up or get stuck like this. Its like the machine will never let go or spit out the DVD again. This is not often fatal to the machine though.

If you are sure you reassembled your DVD correctly after removing the DVD and prying the drawer and did not pop anything in the mechanism it should work. However if the power to it simply will not come back on or will not play anything now it sounds like you have a boat-anchor. You may want to double check you reassembled completely, putting any internal connecting wires back in place etc before giving up.

Was the unit expensive (many are not today). Worth much trouble? Do you have any warranty left to use since the unit quit in use?

Take the thing back for refund if your within your 30 day window and you got the receipt.  Stick with brand name products instead of off label. DVD players are cheap enough now a days to just throw them away and purchase replacements.  Were such a throw away society.
Brands with good luck cause they have better R & D: Sony, Samsung, and Pioneer.
Buy you a new DVD player on Black Friday when they are heavily discounted.  Deals will be abundant this holiday season because retailers are hurting bad for business.  CNN says Blue Ray players will be heavily discounted down to $150-200 depending on what model and features you get.
