Blower would not run at anything above 1/2 throttle. then it would not start at all. put a carb kit in and not it starts and runs at higher rpms but when it warms up it dies. when snapping the throttle it acts like it is not getting any fuel. blew out the fuel lines and removed the fuel filter but it doesn't run any better.

OK. New fuel, fuel filter, spark plug, and a clean air filter. Still doesn't run. I have thoroughly disassembled and cleaned the carb. I have experience doing this as I am an auto tech by trade and have rebuilt several quadra-jet carbs. Tried finding a carb kit but my local retailer doesn't have it. I will try other retailers tomorrow but want to know, other than a total rebuild, do you have any other suggestions?

This is the standard checkup procedure.

Make sure that your fuel mix is correct and clean. Also make sure there are no air bubbles trapped in the fuel line. Agitate the fuel tank to make sure there is no blockage caused by dirt and debris, and if you have a fuel filter fitted, then make sure it is clean and does not need replacing.

Next check the air filter to make sure it is clean.

Check to see if you have a winter and summer setting and choose the correct setting.

Check that the choke operates correctly and if it is auto then the plate moves freely open and close.

Next check that the spark plug is whitish grey and matt in colour and not back, oily or pure white. If so then change the plug and set the correct spark gap for the particular type of plug you are using. If the plug is black and sooty or pure white matt then the fuel mix is incorrect and you will need to adjust this. Black indicates too much oil in the 2 stroke and burning low and the white indicates over temperature and probably not enough oil in the fuel mix or using to high an octane rating. If it is oily then there is far too much oil in the fuel mix and if you are using a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke with additional lubrication then there is oil leaking into the combustion area most likely caused by a worn or cracked piston ring. After that check that the carb is operating correctly and opens fully when starting and closes as the engine warms upon idle. Also make sure that it idles evenly. Also if it stops when you throttle it then look at the spark cap to make sure it is not loose or damaged and produces enough voltage to fire up the plug correctly otherwise you may have a generator issue or a carb problem or air filter problem or something restring air flow. Also check the engine casing over for any cracks or damage.

If the gas is old, for example, last season, change the fuel ..drain the tank, carb and fuel line.
Also clean the air filter... this can have similar effects on start/run.

Pull the spark plug and clean it also, you can use spray carb cleaner on the tip, and then clean with fine sandpaper.
then replace the fuel with fresh fuel/oil mix.

A good spray can of carb clean will work to clean any build up in the carb jets, fuel line etc...

Hello all, I was just wondering how to fix an apparent open throttle on a 1982 Honda cb750 Nighthawk 750?

I suspect that the throttle cable is out of the end setting from removing and replacing the carbs or a return spring for the cable has broken off and not pulling the throttle back to idle position

Sounds like a fuel restriction. have you checked the fuel pump? Your carbs may also need to be cleaned, there are "circuits" and pathways in carbs that get clogged and need to be cleaned and rebuilt. when was the last time you checked the fuel pump or carbs?

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:
1. Fuel line replacement or
2. Carburetor kit replacement

Just let me know.

Engine starts in "full choke" mode. It winds down & shuts off when moved to "half choke". Throws off a good amount of blue smoke when running in full choke.

IF it has a bowl float adjustment screw on the bottom of the carb float bowl, you can try adjusting the screw in or out the get it to run better. the usual setting on a briggs engine is 3/4 to 1 1/2 turns out. so you could screw it in clockwise. till it bottoms out(do not turn it in hard, just till it starts to get tight then stop) then turn it back out 1 full turn. count how many turns you tightened it too. that if it was like not even one turn to tighten it or it was was over one turn, then it was out out adjustment. 1 turn should get it to run, then fine tune it in or out till it runs the best!! sometimes if there is bad gas in it (smells like turpintine, then you'll have to take the carb off and put a rebuild kit in it and clean the carb with a carb sray cleaner .. not hard to put a kit in, just don't take it aprt till you have the carb kit and look at whats in it and you'll do fine!! hope this helps!!! richie p.s. message me back if you need to !!

I have a '74 dt-175. Was running fine.

loosen off the screw that you tightened up, sounds to me like the needle and seat valve is dirty, you will need to take the carb apart and either clean it well or put a carb kit in it.Very inexpensive and your carb will work much better. what is happening is the needle and seat are sticking and causing the carb float not to work properly, the float stays down and the carb continues to fill with gas, causing it to flud out.

Mariner 25 hp 2 stroke hard to start then quits and won't restart

It sounds like the float is sticking in the carb. Since the carb is higher than the fuel tank it pulls the fuel in by vaccum of the engine. when running at high rpms, it can burn the fuel thats flowing into the carb, when you idle down, the bowl of the carb is filling up with fuel faster than the engine can burn it and causing it to flood. Then when it shuts off at idle it does not want to start back up because it is flooded. To make a long stary short, pull the carb and give it a good cleaning and your problems should be solved.

Have a toro power stage max model 826LE electric start, runs irre

Sounds like carb. may need adjusting. Take the heat box off to expose carb., there should be 2 adjustment screws- 1 on the bottom of the bowl and 1 on the side of the carb just above the edge of the bowl ( depending how the carb sets off the engine - if the carb comes straight out it will be on the side facing towards the front of the snow blower or if it goes towards the handles then standing other side of the snow blower the screw will be facing you), turn both screws in til they just bottom out the turn them out 1 1/4 turns out then start the machine. While the machine is running at low idle turn the screw on the side of the carb. in (clockwise) a little at a time listening for the engine to start to rev up and then start to rev down, bog or studder then turn back slightly to bring idle back up. Once the idle is up then the screw on the very top of the carb. turn that out to lower idle to a normal idle. Repeat those adjustments till you cant get the idle to go up anymore. Now for the screw on the bottom of the bowl- move the throttle up to max and turn the screw in till you hear it rev up higher and starts to bog or sputter then turn it back slightly to bring the high rev to a smooth rev. That should take care of it. If it does not solve it then the carb may need cleaning then the adjustments done again. If you need more help on this please feel free to ask. Sometimes you have to do process of elimination and you start with the easiest first. Also the adjustments should help with the carbon build up on the plug.
