- hi
you asking a good question.
well, when i plug the camcorder to pc via IEEE cable nothing happen!
no sound, nothing on manage device under IEEE , nothing.
i don't have the camcorder driver with me but it does work good via usb connection.
also i tried not long ago to connect the camera in my old pc which has the drivers and all the stuff and nothing. no reaction from pc at all !!!!
im really frustrated.
please help me. i bought the camera almost 2 years ago.
thanks
amit

- well i assume you wrong
i tried 2-3 other cables, but nothing.
i bought a new laptop last month: sony vaio
which has a built in IEEE port
and again when i go on device manager i see nothing under IEEE

THE FACT THAT THE PC DOESNT MAKE ANY SOUND DURING THE CONNECTION
BROUGHT TO BELIEVE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE PORT ON THE CAMCORDER
AS I TRIED OTHER PC'S AND CABLES

before i checking repairing prices or buying a new camera i hope to solve this problem.
please help !!!!

- first thank you
before i do what you told me to do
i have a few comments :
1. i have vista not xp
2. i didnt understand the part of the port in my camera
ofcaurse i have port in my camera otherwise i couldnt connect the cable
or thats not what you mean?

Oct 30, 2009

- tried to do the vista option - nothing!
its reinstall RICHO OCHI compliant IEEE 1394
but doesnt recognize the camera

do you have a gun? :-(

Oct 30, 2009

- well sorry to disapoint you
but i am using a 4-4 pin cable

let me be sure:
4-4pin is a cable which has the same in both sides, right?
also its the smallest port, right?
well thats what i use.
i dont have any other port in my pc to change you know. its a little one.
let me tell you this
in my old pc i added an IEEE device spacially for editing movies
and that device had a 6pin (i think) port.
so i bought a cable whice was different than the one i got now
and still nothing.
if the pc would have making any sound during the connection it would have inspire me to solve the problem.
what do you say?
did you solve a problem like mine, when the pc has no reaction to connection?

Oct 30, 2009

- yes i tried other computers- nothing
i guess i need to buy a new camera cause i dont think the repair will be worth it, right?

i have another important thing to tell you:
the onlt time it worked was the first time i connected the camera with an IEEE cable
only the first time, since then i cant repeat that.

- THere should be no issues with the camcorder, it should be occuring mainly due to the two following reasons
  • Bad IEEE cable
  • Bad IEEE drivers in the system.
As you said that, it doesnt work in even in the old system, i suspect the issue should be with your CAble, try changing the cable and trying again..

IEEE drivers are generic and should be installed along with your WIndows XP or operating system..If not please locate the IEEE device from the DEVICE manage and look for any YELLOW mark or RED cross mark. You can navigate to device manage by Right click on My comuter->Select properties and choose HARDWARE TAB and press DEVICE MANAGER...
in the device manager, scroll down to see IEEE port or if you see any yellow colow eith name unknown device, it must be an issue with the driver..

And is it your device has extended IEEE por( ie, are you bought the IEEE seperately) or it is attached to the system...

I suspect this must be an issue with the cable..

Please leave me comment, if you need further assistance

- If you have tried with other system and if it doesnt work in the other system, then it could be due to the issue with the IEEE port in the camera...

Try this thing:

Turn off the PC. Connect the Firewire cable to the camera and the PC's firewire port. Turn on the PC. Allow XP to complete full bootup plus a couple of minutes. Be sure the camera is not in video mode, just picture mode for viewing pictures. Turn on the camera. Give XP a little time to access the camera and deliberate the files on the media. Open windows explorer and attempt to find the camera media, go down the folder hierarchy to locate folder that contains the pictures. Attempt to view a picture by opening one of those files. Windows media player will display these natively. Once you've been successful at this, then try camera video. Don't switch to video until you back out with windows explorer and close its window. Turn the camera off, switch to video. Turn the camera back on

If the camera refuses to work with any PC's firewire interface, the OP should consider whether his camcorder's i-Link port has failed.
ANd i want to say that, IEEE port can be used for transferring only the videos and not the pictures

Check whether your camera has i_link support , else you wont able to use IEEE for transferring videos , it can be used only with the special device , check whether the devie has inbuilt i-Link..

Please leave these details as comment ans we will solve your issue.

- Oh..ITs a vista..Its the issue with the Vista, lot of user facing the same problem with the Vista...Updating the Vista should help you in fixing. But here is the hint that helped many users..

In device manager
Uninstall 1394 device,by right clicking and uninstall
turn camera on
plug in to 1394 port

in device manager;
click Action/scan for hardware changes
system sees 1394 port, installs driver automatically

system then should detect camera and manualy install driver by right clicking it in Device manager and selecting 'update driver software' do not let it do it automatically, select 'browse my computer for driver software' point it at c:\windows

it should detect it as a 61883 class bus device and installs driver camcorder appears in device manager as imaging device after completion it brought up the autoplay window to ask how you want to import the video...

Please leave these details as comment ans we will solve your issue.

- Yes,got that right now...Vista detects the camera onyl if its a 4-4pin iLink cable...Try to get that cable and try connecting. It should definetly recognize your camera..The cable may cost your 1.5$

Oct 30, 2009

- Yes, if you hear a sound, it means that you are connected..But if you doesnt hear then the camera is not sending the information... Have you ever tried using using IEEE cable in any of the computer (XP), does it worked.. I think there must be problem with the iLink port of the camera, if it doesnt work with any of the computer, please try that before you gove the camera for service
