Pioneer DVD-U03S SCSI DVD Drive
Problem for Pioneer DVD-U03S SCSI DVD Drive

******Question about Pioneer DVD-U03S!*********

By Cato - usenet poster

" "
I would like to ask if someone knows if the Pioneer DVD-U03S (6X SCSI-2
Slot in style player) is region free or if it has a limit of region code
changes.
If it has a limit of region code changes is it possible to "hack" it?
Thanks a lot

Hello Michel!

In my Win 98 System the Pioneer is reported as a Pinoneer DVD 303.
So the RPC Jumper was not removed, puuuh.... :-)

Meanwhile Armageddon runs in my U03S. The problem was the Sofware from
ELSA. (ELSA use the Quadrant Cinemaster DVD Software and labeld it
with their Logo).

I found (after 3 hours web searching :-( ) a registry patch for the Quadrant
Player.
Now it's not possible to play my Code 2 DVD. But that??s only a
Windows - Registry problem... (i hope)

I testet the Xing Player first with the DVD Encore 5x Pack. I installet the
Remote
crack Software and switched between Code 1 and 2. Everthing worked, the Xing
Player too. Now, with the Pioneer DVD Drive in my system, Xing only works
with
Code 2. I think the problem was, that no "remote-sofware" was there to
switch
the Code. So only Code 2 was working...

I can??t find the Software "DVDREGION.EXE" on the web. Can you send me
this file or anyone got an URL for me?

Thank you for helping!

I didn't say anything about the RPC jumper!! And I don't have any problem with
the windows98 region code. Now I own a Real magic Holliwood+ with a Toshiba
player and I can change how many times I want the region code thanks to a little
program called Zone selector. I just wanted to ask if the Pioneere DVD-U03S
player is region free or not!!!!!

Remember that the DVD player is not the only one to be region code
protected: the software player is also region protected, and the MPEG
decoding card if you use any. Even your operating system can be region
protected: Win98 is. In order to use XingDVD it must be set to the correct
region, and if you work under Win98 it also has to be set to the correct
region. There is a small program to do this, called dvdregion.exe, available
on the net. This program will enable you to change at will the region code
of the common players (XingDVD, Cinemaster, PowerDVD) and of Win98. I don't
remember the URL unfortunately. Can someone help here?

One additional comment: you say you did not remove the RPC jumper. That's
OK, but are you sure somenone did not remove it before you buy it? To be
sure of this, look in Control Panel, System: your drive will be reported as
a CD-ROM and will be called Pioneer DVD 103 if the jumper was never removed,
otherwise it will be reported as Pioneer DVD 103R (notice the additional R).

I've never removed the RPC-jumper, but I've big problems with the U03S.

Problem 1:
My Armageddon DVD is Code 1. When I try to play it, the Xing DVD-Player
shows
the "FBI-warning", but nothing more. I'm able to copy the "video_ts.vob" on
HD.
But I'm not accessed to start or copy any other file from the DVD under
Windows Explorer.
With a Crative Encore 5x Set DVD Player (Cracked with the Matsushita
firmware)
the Armageddon DVD works 100%!

The Power DVD Player only shows the message:
Error Code: 89010002, Disc has been changed

My other DVD "Perfect Deal" is a German Code 2 version. With this DVD I
don't have any problems.

Problem2:
My original CD-Rom with the ELSAmovie DVD-Player on it, is not able to
be run in the U03S. The drive makes a strange noise, like the optical unit
falls back. It's not possible to start this normal CD-Rom.
My TEAC CD-532S never made any problems like this,  and the
ELSA CD runs fine in it.

With some "burned" CD's the optical unit falls back too, but only for one
second and the drive will work fine.

I can't locate any problems with my other hardware or software. I've tried
everything...

What's wrong????

I just bought one today (finally!!! ... very hard to find in Paris/France),
I'm still waiting for my Zone1 DVDs but it seems to be 'Zone Free' according
to a review I saw (of the IDE version). I used a program called 'DRVInfo'
and it says there's no region protection.

So it seems to be ok.

Never remove the jumper marked RPC though. If you do, the drive will be
permanently regionalized (even if you put back the jumper).

As long as you won't remove the RPC-Jumper on the back. So you'd better
never ever remove it!!!

I _love_ this Slot-In loading mechanism!
