Generic adapters can be found on ebay or in local retail shops.
If you need the adapter fast, go to a local store like best buy, staples or your friendly neighborhood PC retailer/repair shop. Be prepared to pay a premium. If you can wait a few days or insist on getting the name brand adapter, try e-bay.

I can't get my dell inspiron to power on. I will charge the battery using the wall charger but will not come on. What can I try?

Try this if will help.

Remove battery and unplug the ac adapter from laptop.

Without the power sources hold down the power button for 10 seconds.

Check the ac adapter from wall power socket if ac adapter LED is ON.

Plug back in the ac adapter to laptop then check the LED from the ac adapter if it stayed on.

If ac adapter LED turned off right after you plug in the ac adapter to laptop then you need to replace the ac adapter, motherboard and power daughter board.

Hold down the D key then Press Power Button once. Check if color display will appear in the screen.

if the ac adapter stays on you and still no power indicator from the laptop you need to replace motherboard and power daughter board.

Hope this helps.

Battery will not charge. AC power LED does not come on when AC power adapter connected.

You may have a faulty adapter. Check the connector with a multi-meter, the voltage reading should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the back og the power adapter.
If the light on the power adapter does not light up when you plug it into the mains, then it is definitely faulty and you need a new one.

Toshiba satilite P100...wont turn of

Try these:

1. Can you plug something else besides your laptop into the outlet...verify you have power?

2. Is there a light on your AC adapter...when you plug it in?

3. Try removing your battery and plugging it in, and verify that your AC adapter is working (somehow, if it has no indicator light)

4. Then unplug it, put the battery back in and see if it will start.

Let us know what happens after you try these.

For some models, however -- including those listed above -- booting from the Recovery disc requires pressing the F12 key, rather than the 'C' key. The instructions below are correct for these models.
CAUTION: The Recovery process reformats the computer's hard disk drive, which completely erases its contents -- including all applications, all documents, and all other data stored on the drive. Be sure to back up your documents and other data before following the instructions below.
Follow these steps to erase the current contents of the hard disk drive and to re-install all of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured:
1. With the computer on, insert the first Recovery disc into the optical drive.
2. Shut down the computer (click the Start button, click Shut Down, select Shut Down, click OK).
3. Press the computer's power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press and hold the F12 key. Release the F12 key when the menu of boot options appears.
4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the CD/DVD option. Press the Enter key to select it.
The computer will restart, and will boot from the Recovery disc.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to start the Recovery process.
CAUTION: Once the Recovery process has begun, do not interrupt it.

The computer's hard drive will be formatted, erasing its contents. All of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured will then be re-installed.
6. Once the Recovery process is complete, remove the Recovery disc, and press any key to restart the computer.

Issue

The computer models listed above may display a "Password =" prompt when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed.
If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.
The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you.
Resolution

If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, then click the following link to download and install BIOS version 4.00. This BIOS displays a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.
You may also browse for a newer version of the computer's BIOS at pcsupport.toshiba.com.
For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.
If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem fixed at no charge. To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit Toshiba's Global ASP Locator at http://pcrepair.toshiba.com.
