Hp photosmart 3110 scanner problem

everytime i scan an image...i only get the 1st inch of the image then after its all blak...i notice the bulb of the scanner is turning off while scanning so thats why it gives me mostly black image rather than whole....curiously i want to know whats the parts involve here....is it the scanner assembly or the motherboard already????
