You have two options.

replace the latch
or
you can pull the panel off the inside of the door and spray some WD-40 on the latch to free it up. Mine did this a few months ago and so far it hasnt locked up again on me.

Drivers side door closed and will not open.

Remove inner door latch and try operating the rod manually (vice grips). If locked, spray everything inside the door with WD-40 or the like and try operating the lock.

1987 Oldsmobile Sierra door won't close...like

Sounds like the door latch is stuck or broken.
There is a gear in the side of the latch that turns when it hits the striker bolt on the door frame.
You can try taking a screwdriver and pushing on the gear to see if it will move. You can look at one of the other doors to see how it is supposed to work.

95 dodge caravan drivers door won't latch

often normal door latches will wear out causing the door latch to not activate the "full latch". The full latch ends up moving further up and into the latch. the solution is to replace the latch or have it rebuilt.

Door on 95 geo metro 4 door won't close because the child proof lock in on and I can't get it to go off. Door won't stay shut. Any ideas how to fix this?

Your childproof lock have nothing to do with the latch not closing. It only makes it where you can not open the door from the inside. I would think you are in need of a new latch.

Driver side door won't open

If the door handles feel like they have resistance but don't open the door I would suspect a seized door latch.

I have a 2002 chevy blazer that the driver side door won't close all the way but it's NOT the latch inside the door, the door seems to be lower than the latch.

Sounds like your door hinges are worn. Pin and bushing kits are available at parts stores, and with a little patience are not awful to install. Installing a pair of these should restore the door to the original height, and allow the door to close properly.

The drivers-side back door of my 1998 jeep cherokee won't close. The latch has turned too far and won't go back to it's open position so, unless there is some trick you can recommend, it will...

since the door is open,, hold the handle in the open position and try and move the little hook looking latch , it may have just moved into the closed position , if you can move it to the open position, then your home free

2006 buick lucerne back doors won't open

My friend just had this problem and he reached in and pulled the inside door handle back as far as it would go, and then let it go, allowing it to 'snap' back. For some reason this fixed it. We have no idea why. By doing this on one door, both rear door locks freed up and the rear locks are now working. Before, both rear locks were stuck and you could not open the doors from the inside nor the outside. Not sure why it works, but maybe it will work for you!
