I would take it to somewhere like Batteries Plus. they usually have the battery in stock and the guys at the one near me were very helpful and willing to try it for mine.

No. Somehow, your computer is not recharging your current battery.
So, it will NOT be able to charge a new battery.

Find an authorized Dell service provider in your area,
and get them to fix your Dell.

Worked off the battery but it wont charge or run off power cord adaptor

Check and make sure the power adapter doesn't have a fuse somewhere in it. Then chk the wattage output of the adapter. Watts should be marked on the adapter.. Now see what the computer requires. Computer info is on the sticker on underside of computer. To determine how many watts the computer needs, Note the amps the computer draws(on label) and multiply the volts(on computer again) x the amps. Answer will be your needed wattage.
Use only the adapter that came with the computer. They may look alike, but there is a difference. Make sure the computer is powered off. A full charge is needed now since the battery was dead. Allow time and don't use the machine prematurely.
Make sure the adapter output matches or betters the requirements of the computer.- Good Luck-Ned

AC power adapter wattage cannot be determined

The AC adapter needs to be replaced. You can buy one from Dell for about 100-200 dollars. If your laptop is still under warranty, the charger is often covered under the same warranty as the laptop and should be replaced under warranty if applicable. You may also buy a third-party charger off of ebay or amazon much cheaper, but this is not recommended. If you do consider a third party charger, make sure that it has the same wattage, voltage, everything! Good luck!

Battery charger

Yes. Usually they either work or they don't so obviously when they test good they should charge the battery. Dell laptops have a "data pin" that determines what wattage of power cord is plugged. If this data pin goes bad on the power cord or motherboard the laptop won't charge.

When you received the system as out of the box and you get this message "The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determind" let the Dell tech service know that they sent you a wrong or incorrect type of AC Adapter.
If this message not was not appearing before it just happened recently try to download and install the latest BIOS version from the support site.
If all fails remove the batt and check if laptop can work with AC adapter alone, because issues like AC not determine may not charge the battery and laptop may not work with AC as well, maybe laptop is already running on battery power.

The power adapter MUST BE a Dell brand power adapter.
If it is, then the socket that was replaced is not the right part.
Of course, the laptop can work just fine with the power adapter, it justwon't charge the battery.

Is there any such thing as charging my mps nextar MA933a via the USB port? I just get sleepy z's on the display when I connect it to my computer.

Here is what I found:
Connected the player to the PC with and without prior power on successfully
OSD first displays message “Starting…” then:
Icon appears on screen with a picture of a computer monitor to right and mp3 player icon to left
When mp3 player is communicating with computer or sending information, an appropriate directional arrow appears between the two icons; when transferring files using Windows Explorer, the arrow reverses direction appropriately; when there is no activity either way, a series of “Z z z” ‘s appear on screen
Battery indicator icon also appears to right – new AAA battery resulted in a fully charged icon upon startup; no battery whatsoever resulted also in a fully charged battery icon appearing

Battery not recharging

All batteries die sooner or later. I believe you have a dead cell.

1) Find another machine that uses the same battery and try it or
2) try another battery or
3) Give up and buy a new battery.

Good luck.
