Did you reinstall from the Toshiba-supplied "System Recovery" CD-ROM, or from some other "retail" Windows XP CD-ROM ?

The Toshiba CD-ROM contains the device-driver.
Toshiba's web-site also contains the device-driver,
for use in a situation like yours.

Within Device Manager, look at the "Unknown Devices" branch.
Expand that branch, then double-click on the '?' device,
and choose "reinstall driver", and allow Windows to connect,
via Ethernet cable connected to a router, or to a cable-modem, or to an ADSL-modem, to the Internet to find and download the correct driver.

Sounds like a corrupt bios to me. Download the latest for your particular laptop from the Tosh site and create a bootable usb with the relevant flash file. Restart and then try to access the bios again from F2

My wireless adaptor isn't working. I have an Acer travel mate5720 which has a switch on the front for blue tooth & wireless access. Bluetooth works ok but the Wireless adaptor won't i have checked in...

This model does have wireless. I had a similar problem a little while ago, I plugged the unit in to a wired connection, and on it's own, disabled the wireless adapter.
Go to start--> control panel--system-->hardware-->device manager

look under the "network adapters", there should be a wireless adapter or 802g something something, right click on this item and click "enable".

You should then be able to browse for wireless networks now.

Laptop cannot log on wirelessly . have Bigpond land line and an Optus wireless connection , neither will connect . Other computers in the house have no problem

Check if the wireless switch on the Computer is turned ON. Based on the Operating system, make sure that wireless is enabled in the supplied application, for instance, if you're using Windows Vista Operating System then make sure that wireless is enabled in Windows Mobility center.
Check in the Device manager whether the wireless adaptor has any exclamation mark. You can reach to the device manager by typing devmgmt.msc in the run dialog box and clicking OK.
Under the Device manger, click the plus sign beside the "network adaptor" and chekc if the wireless driver is listed and doesn't have any exclamation mark. If wireless driver is listed but has an exclamation mark then right click on it and uninstall. When prompted to delete then select yes and restart the Computer.
next visit the support site of the manufacturer to download the wireless driver compatible to the installed Operating system. Furthermore, you can run network diagnosis by opening Internet Explorer and click on the 'repair network".

I restored my toshibia A55 and now my wireless doesn't work

sounds like you need to install the chip set drivers, then the wireless network drivers, if atheros card install before you install other drives, but chip set drivers first

Running my laptop wireless

if it has a built in wireless adapter make sure 1st of all that the switch is turned on(I have a Tosh Sat too, mine is in the front on the left side) Once done, see if the wireless icon appears in the system tray. I fit doesnt appear cheeck in ctrl panel under network connections to see if it appears there and is not disabled. if not present check in device manager to see if the system sees it, making sure there are no bangs(exclamation points or red x's) on it, if it isn' t there..maybe it dowsn't have built in wireless.
