When i use this laptop normally, it randomly shuts down and upon rebooting, it says it has overheated. This still happens even when it is on a flat surface without airflow obstuction. Even when using i8kfangui to force my fan to high speed at all times, the temp climbs and it eventually overheats. Otherwise the laptop works fine.

- Wow. Found the problem. There was a dust clump the size of a cockroach in blocking my heatsink's airflow.

Hi everyone Many thanks in advance for helping me fixing my acer travelmate 4052 laptop. One fine day it decided not to work. The initial problem was it was failing to boot. Soon after the power button is switched on the power light will be green, the hard disk drive (HDD) activity indicator will glow for a few seconds and then the HDD indicator will turn off.But the power light will still be on.
Then there will an absolute silence and if left for about 10 -20 minutes the computer will start to boot slowly - sometimes it will boot fully otherwise it freezes in the middle. If it boots fully then it will allow me to work for 15-20 minutes and it will shutdown automatically or it will just freeze.
If it freezes the only way I could turn off is to switch the power button off. (I noticed the HDD activity indicator will glow as long as I am able to work on the computer and then when it freezes the indicator will switch off, but ht e computer power light is still on) I tried to reinstall my windows XP with no great success. I have read something on the internet and I tried several tricks including running my windows task manager with no effect. So i left the laptop for a couple of weeks and switched on again today and it did the same thing - failed to boot. I tried for the second time and when it booted after 20 minutes, I decided to leave my windows media player ON this time and to my surprise I was able to work on it for half an hour (longer than usual) and it did the same again - either it will shut down suddenly or it would freeze. I am not sure if that was a coincidence when I played the media player but consistently I was able to work on the computer longer (since this problem) if I leave my media player ON. Will you be able to tell me if this could be fixed. I will really appreciate if any of you could explain in simple terms as I am not that computer literate. Many thanks for your help Regards VS

My laptop keyboard hasn't been working for about 24 hours. At first, my laptop shift key seemed to be stuck because I was typing in all symbols instead of numbers like # instead of 3 or & instead of 7. Now I rarely type at all. If I open up a browser click the address bar and start typing with "www.." my browser closes, I believe it's typing in commands. I don't know if this helps but I just got the computer October 18th. Thanks.

The light on the main power supply is on, but it won't turn on. I've tried taking out the battery and holding the on button, but no such luck.
