Does not vacuum effectively. It smells like it is burning. I have only had this one year and hardly use it. When I brought it to a local vacuum repair place, he wanted to sell me another one, and, of course, wanted to trade mine towards another.
Miele vacuums are famous for having hair and carpet fibers getting caught in the roller bearings. That can cause a bad smell. The motors in Mieles are very well built and I have a hard time believing that the suction motor is going bad in 1 year.
The burning smell may be the motor that's on its way out. Vacuuming with a blocked pipe or sucking up liquids may cause the motor to burn prematurely. The motors arent very expensive, but on the small vacuum cleaners it is sometimes more cost effective to go for a cheap second hand vacuum than to fix it. Depends on if the guy that fixed it is trustworthy, but i can guarantee you the secondhand machine will not have a lifelong guarantee on it. ask for prices on the motor and decide which you can afford.

The brush wouldn't work when the selector switch was in carpet mode. Took the power head apart and removed the motor. Everything o.k. in the power head. Checked and found that the neutural wire had pulled out of the connector, the connector was never crimped at the factory. What a day! Took 2 hours and a large pizza to get it done. Neutral wire was in the hose just below the handle. Reconnected the wire and crimped it, put everything back together. It works!!!!

I have an S548 Aluminum canister vac that's about 6 years old. Tonight while I was vacuuming, the LED on top of the powerhead that is normally green turned red and the brush stopped spinning.
I took the brush cover off the bottom, took off the top cover, took off the inner cover. The wiring and connections all seemed to be intact. I took the back cover off the neck of the powerhead (where it connects to the wand) and the two yellow wires in there looked good too.
I suspect the powerhead may need a new motor. Can someone let me know what the red light might mean.
Thank you in advance.
