My psp makes a wierd grinding sound when loading umd's!

I've tryd to clean the lens, it did'nt help. i checked out the disc's and they are fine, not even a new game disc would load. all of a sudden it started makin a loud grinding sound, and i tried to turn it off and than it would not turn off. i had to take out the battery to turn it off. i left it alone for a few hours and than tried it again and it did work it took awhile but it still makes a loud grinding sound. witch is very strange as i have a steel case for it to be carry'd. note i love my psp and i take very good care of it, i did buy it used, at a video game store 4 months ago! but just all of a sudden! could it be caused by keeping it in sleep mode for long peirods of time?

My psp wont play any umd i put in it. It will have the loading icon up there but the umd never plays.

This can be caused by one of only two primary reasons.
First of all, you have to ensure that the UMD you are trying to play is clean and free from scratches or glitches. If there are any of such things on the disc, it cold prevent the lens from reading the disc and so the display would keep showing the loading icon(small circular icon in the bottom right corner) until it eventually brings up a message saying it could not be read. If you have any of these on your disc, it is advisable you do away with the disc or you can follow the instruction below on how to clean the disc.
1. Get a magnet and attach it to the center of the case,
2. Use a soft material that has some rubbing alcohol like methylated spirit on it. (make sure its not soaked).
3. Put the material on the open quarter and use the magnet to spin the disc in a circular way while using the wet part of the material to clean the part currently on the open quarter.
secondly, you could have a problem with your game laser and so need to clean it. You can clean it by doing what is written below.
1. wetting an ear wax cleaner and opening your UMD drive and using the wet moist cleaner to clean the surface of the lens. Also make sure it is not soaked.

If any of the above solution does not work for you, you might be having a very serious issue and might need to contact Sony or a repairer.
Hope this was helpful?

My psp does not read any games what do i do

First, check the discs for scratches. If there are any, there is your problem. Remove the battery. Then, clean the laser lens with a very fine textured cloth, moistened with rubbing alcohol. Leave the UMD drive open to let it air dry for 5 minutes. Reinsert the battery, power on, and everything should work. If not, your lens are broken and you will need to install a replacement.

PSP Not Loading Games

You most likely need to clean the lens. Local game stores have kits that clean it for you.

Psp making funny buzz noise and not reading umd disks.

Try a different UMD, it might be scratched. If not, take a soft cloth, and clean the lens. Look on google to see where the lens are located.

Psp umd problems

Clean the lasers lens with Glass Cleaner and a cotton swab. Do not use Alcohol, it will damage the lens. Also, I know they have UMD disc cleaner on Ebay. Another thing is to open the Internet explorer and click on the toolbox and delete cookies and offline files. This also may free up memory.

Where is the UMD?

UMD is Universal Media Disc, its a small disc are used for PSP.  press the "eject" button on the top to open the disc tray. Usually the problem its not from the UMD, but from the console.

The first check the version you are running on psp, >> Go to the PSP Menu and move across to the "Settings Menu". Scroll down, select to "System Settings" >> "System Information" and you should see version of your PSP. If the UMD has a high version than ur console, u need to update ur psp.

Hi Jleew,

You should check to see if another UMD will work first.  Also try them in another PSP.  If your sure your PSP is not reading Discs, then and only then, Clean the Laser lens carefully.  Using a strong flashlight and magnifying glass, look into the UMD drive with the UMD door open and look for debris like hair or lint, and also dirt and dust.  A black switch pokes up on the left inside the UMD drive.  Its a little black stick.  When you press down on this Black stick, your UMD disc motor should spin for  second or two.  The UMD laser lens should light up when your press this switch.  If any of this does not happen, you need to replace the UMD drive. If you need someone to do this which if you have never done it, you need some knowledge big time.

I can do this for you if you're in the USA for $55 including a New UMD drive, REturn Shipping, and 90 day warranty. Contact Repairtech@playstationclinic.com
