RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100

Pearl web access problem

posted by d1trout on Jan 02, 2008

In the past week or so, my web access thru Google or the browser that comes with the Pearl has become very very very slow, often opening to a white screen and then nothing more. I can get Google maps but that function also it quite slow. Email is OK. This is in contrast to overall very fast and smooth connections previously. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dick

Brambleator, thanks for your suggestions. I was unable to get either Google or the browser to open, so I reregistered per your instructions (there was a bold entry) and got a confirming email that my pearl has been "registered with the wireless network". However I remain unable to access the internet via either Google or the browser. Perhaps it takes a while to bring everything back up to date...?

Brambleator, I powercycled the phone and was then able to get the browser to open. I cleared all caches and all seems to be well and functioning properly. Thanks very much for you help!

you are able to gain some sort of connection by using your email, so the issue does not sound internet related. try clearing out your content cache.

in order to do this, open your browser, go menu, options, cache operations and you will see 4 links at max......clear history, and clear under the content cach, pushed content, cookie cache. go ahead and press all of these....actually, depending on how much you access the internet, i would do this anywhere from once every other day, to once a week.

if this does not work, try to re register to rim. go to phone options, advanced options, host routing table......register to the BOLDED ENTRY. (in order to do this, highlight that entry, press menu and register now.) if there are no entries here, do a soft reset.

huh.....okay.

if you register through the host routing tables, it will be imediate. what that does is it make your phone register to RIM and so whatever you are set up for on RIM, your phone will match.....

you can run device diagnostics to see if the issue is a blackberry issue or a phone issue.....depending on the sw version you will either have to go to options, status, menu, device diagnostics, menu, run...or options, mobile network, menu, diagnostic test, menu, run.

keep an eye on the blackberry pin-pin, blackberry registration, icmp ping echo and connected to blackberry....yes's is good no's is not.....you should not see any no's.

also, you will see the radio data activation, radio access (make sure this is EDGE/GPRS (capital). if everything says yes, go into options, advanced options, service book and delete all entries (you will not be able to delete provisioning). you will have to resend service books. if the icon is still there you can go to set up internet email and go to settings, service books, then send all. if you dont see that there go to your browser and bookmarks, set up internet email, settings, service books.

if you dont see either one of thease, it means that the service books are just missing. thats fine. you can try to sync them over by doing the HOST ROUTING TABLES again (options, advanced options, host routing table, scroll to the BOLDED option, menu and register now....)

if that does not work, contact your service provider and have them sent from there. just ask to have them to resend your service books.

if you havent tried this before, now that im thinking about it, powercycle the phone. remove the battery and put it back in. its always good to do this if you have an issue with your phone.
