Just bought a Satellite A200 Part Number - PSAF6A-07G01N Satellite A200, Intel Core 2 Duo T7250

and after a few captures the camera is no longer loading via the taskbar, side toolbar or selection from start -> Camera Assistant Software. Prior to that everytime i loaded the camera it said it was locked by another application (don't know which one).

Now it won't load at all.. Help!

- I load up my camera on my toshiba satellite L300 and the dash bar appears and the image comes up on screen. It will take photos or record audio, but when i click video it states "locked by another application. I hunted through my pc for an application which would cause a problem and found nothing. I then searched though local activity through the registry and the camera software was not accessing any software nor any software was accessing the camera. I have uninstalled the driver and re-installed it, loaded it with other software and tried the acer and compaq drivers (which are all supported) and nothing has rectified the problem.- aries0114

- Has anyone found the solution to this problem?

mine kept saying locked by another program and i have done all the driver updates etc..
Even uninstalled Windows Messanger as i read that could be the problem but nup it is still not working.. I need skype for an important course im doing online and need to get the webcam working ASAP

Install manually acer webcam driver http://download3.acer.com.cn/driver/whole/notebook/AS2920/WinXP/CCD_Chicony_v5.7.31.400-1.0.zip
NOte: Camera asistant software says error, when i have the solutions will post

happens to mine too! i think vista is to blame. whatever it is, it's reeeallly annoying.

just had the same problem with mine (after I installed Kapersky Internet Security). It kept on saying that CEC_MAIN.EXE needed to be reinstalled every time I booted up my toshiba laptop. I've just downloaded and installed this driver and all is good!

Hi, If you start up your camera and go to settings, then click on the video tab, then untick the box next to "play after rrecording". The prrogram apprently is using windows media to play back video with its codecs, if you have ticked the box it will bring up the codecs in the backround. thus making the error "locked by another application".
I found this by mistake, this never happened on the windows XP version. It still used the codecs =, but it never locked the application in the process.

Install the Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB931812). 1. Review the background information in Microsoft Knowledgebase Article 938315.
2. Review Microsoft Knowledgebase Article 931812 and fill out the Web Submission Form for the Hotfix.
Microsoft will send an e-mail message with a download link for the Hotfix.
3. Click the link in the message to download and install the Hotfix.
The built-in webcam should now respond correctly to requests from applications.

I have a problem with the camera assistant software that was pre-installed with my toshiba laptop. Everytime I try to take a picture, an old snapshot keeps appearing. It refuses to save my new picture. Anyone can help?

i have bought this Toshiba laptop few days ago and had had the same issue.. i think the problem is with the software.. now what i do is i start the camera... if it gives me black screen i press f5 and then again click the snap shot button.. this works..
the same i do with the video. when it shows locked by another application .. i press f5 and then start it again.. in my case it works..

(i also tried) when it doesn't work i press the default option and it starts to work..
in my case f5/default both works(USE ONE)... but still if there is any remedy for life time that would be a real lifesaver..

I hold a L300 Toshiba laptop that was working fine... Now I have a black screen displayed, I dont have a clue of what is the problem. Can some one please share some details on how to fix it.

I have a Toshiba satillite a200 I have the same problem but i had been using the camera just fine to take pictures for about a year. then when i realised i could use it for webcam i tried using it with msn and asoon as i tried that then that was the last time it ever worked now it just says locked by another application, so now i can't use it as a webcam although i never could and i also cant use it to take pictures any more should i take it back in?

yes, im going crazy i have a toshiba portege m600 laptop and my camera assitant software say "locked by another application" i keep trying to "fix/re-install" but nothing seembs to work...im getting so frustrated that im thinking about buying an external cam....i really dont know what else to do.
