On the back of the camera there is a button with a clock picture (usually with only one hand). Press this button and watch the screen. You will be given the choice of 2 or 10 seconds.(that varies with camera model). Pick one (usually 10 seconds is better) and push set. Press the shutter button and get in front of the camera...smile.

My Canon A75 camera worked fine until now. Now when turned on the display is fading out in about 4 seconds until it's completely dark. If I press display button 3 times it turns on but again fades out, same if I turn the camera on/off. Pictures taken using viewfinder come out OK when downloaded. By tapping the camera from the front it now works fine. Could this be because the CCD chip is coming out of the socket? Would/should Canon fix this free of charge?
