Deleting mp3s does not free up space on memory stick

When I connect to my mac with usb cable and delete files it doesn't increase the amount of free memory that the mac says is available.
I have deleted an album using the phone and the memory changes to suit.
i have tried turning phone on & off, waiting for the change to be noticed etc. - no change to avail memory according to mac
it means that although i only have about 300mb of songs the computer/phone are telling me i only have 1.8 of free space (which is how much space i had before i deleted the mp3s using the mac)
How can i make my phone and mac realise i do have lots of memory??

Seagate Freeagent external Hard drive won't increase free space when files are deleted?

How are you deleting the files? If you're simply moving them to the trashcan/recycle bin then they're still taking space on your drive. Try emptying the trashcan/recycle bin.

The system memory on my phone keeps increasing...how do I decrease it?

If you are referring to space that is used, you can free up space by deleting files you no longer need. If your phone is uses for photography or videography, you can send these files to your computer using either multimedia messages, a microSD card, or the data cable for your phone.

If you mean usage of system memory, simply turning the phone off and on again should resolve the problem.

I accidently deleted my hd movies on the sony handycam model : hdr-sr5e. how can i recover these files and i use a macbppk pro. Appreciate a speedy reply. Thanks Feroz

I has success with asoftech data recovery program, you can download the program from
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

Please be noted that your camcorder memory should show as a drive letter in your explorer, if not, you need to take out your memory card and connect using a card reader, or plug-in to card reader slot if there's any on your computer.

I tried deleting everything from my memory stick becaues there is not enough space for my file, but after deleting it, I still dont have enough space, it keeps saying the avaliable space is 270MB even tho...

Try to format the drive from your computer, instead of just erasing it. Also, memory cards do go bad too.....some times quite easily.

The good news is they are VERY inexpensive now of days if you do need to replace it.

How can i recover file deleted in error

You can often successfully recover deleted files from a PC, phone or camera memory card or USB Memory stick, it just depends on what's happened since the files were deleted.
When you delete files the data itself isn't deleted, just the index entry that says where the data for those files is located. The space containing the deleted files is also now marked as free space so it is available to the system for any new files to be written there instead.

If the deleted files are on a memory card or USB memory stick, just don't save any new files to it.

One of the easiest ways to see if you can recover deleted files is to try some file recovery software. Recommended asoftech data recovery as it saved my life many times. download asoftech data recovery from
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

here's a video tutorial shows how to recover deleted files

Creating space on external hard drive

When you move files to the Trash on a Mac you are just marking the files to be deleted next time you empty the trash. You are not actually deleting them when you move them to the trash. They will continue to take up space on your drive until you empty the trash.

Emptying the trash will delete everything in the Trash folder regardless of which drive it is stored on. If you have files you are not certain you want to delete that are located on your internal drive, open the Trash folder and move them temporarily out (like to the desk top), then empty the trash to delete all the ones on the external drive that you do want to clear off.

You will see that the free space has increased on the external drive. Now put back in the trash the files from your internatl drive you were thinking of deleting but not certain you wnated to (if that is your reason for not wanting to empty the trash. I'm not clear on why you would not want to delete them.)
