Problem for Western Digital External USB 2.0 80 GB Hard Drive
Hard drive not recognized by my computor
Hard drive not recognized by my computor . When you plug the drive into the USB, you hear the upload tone but the icon does not appear in the "My Computor" screen. Therefore I cannot access the files within.

What physical size is your USB drive and what are you plugging it in to (model etc)

Hello
Follow these steps and you should be able to fix your problem.
Go to:
Start
control panel
Administrative tools
computer management
Storage
Disc management
Now you should be able to see your drive in the schematic below. Right click the drive you cannot see in My computer and choose the option to change drive letters or paths. Now if there is no drive letter that is assigned to the drive it will not show in my computer, now just assign a letter, restart, and it should work.
