A couple weeks ago, the tv would show a dark screen with some horizontal stripes moving across it faintly (but had sound) before it performed normally. Then recently the red on lamp didn't work, and it seemed it wouldn't start up at all unless you let it be for maybe 20 - 30 minutes. The red lamp never seemed to come on again, even when it was working normally. Sometimes it would work if you reset the surge protector. Now it seems it stopped working at all - no sound, no picture. We've always used the remote to turn it on and off.

This is a tricky one. Right off hand I would say that it has a power supply problem. Possibly a bad capacitor. Other than that it would have to go to the operating table for further troubleshooting. Have ashop check it out for you. Thanks

LG LCD TV - Buzzing Sound and Faint Horizontal Lines

From your description, the sound you are hearing is the inverter(s) that drive the back light for the LCD screen/module.
The inverters mounted on the back side (one lower right and one left side) of the LCD screen/module. They are under the sheet metal cover/shields.
The inverters are going out and or the LCD screen/module is going bad too.
That LG TV has only a 1 year on parts and labor from the date of purchase, but you could call LG and ask for their help for such a new TV. They might do it under a warranty, for little or no cost to you.
I hope this information has helped you.
Good Luck.

Ibook screen issues

This is nearly impossible to diagnose via the Web. It sounds like the logic board is at fault, but not necessarily.

Black line running horizontally across TV screen

A line on an LCD, either horizontal or vertical usually means the video driver board is defective or the screen is defective, does it show up as black even on a dark screen? That means a line of LCD "shutter"s is not working and there is a problem that cant be fixed by a reboot or channel change. Bummer.
