I read the other two solutions top your problem and I have to say, some people should not give advice, because the advice they are giving is not worth anything. NOW, let me tell you what is wrong with your car. You have a defective IAC (Idle Air Control) value. The IAC value (sometimes called a cold start value) is used as a means to quickly start your car when it is cold outside. Replace the IAC (easy to do) and your problem will be solved..

Great idea so where do I find the iac on "rusty bucket"? Thanks

  • Anonymous Jan 22, 2012

The IAC value (or motor as it is sometimes called) is located on your throttle body. It will be a small cylinderical looking object that has an electrical plug clipped to it. On GM engines, it is right next to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. You can either remove it and clean it throughly with carb. cleaner or you can replace it. The cost of a new IAC is anywhere from $30-$50.

Check your battery, and see if the cca's (cold crankink amps) are up to par. How to test is, when it is cold try starting, if it starts slow shut off immediatly and put a "jump" on it. If it starts quickly...replace battery.

My temp gauge is not working and since that, when the car is hot,it stops everywhere and it is hard to start, like it s flooded ( to much gas )is it the temp gauge the problem!

Hello francis.

If the temperature sensor is defective it will send a cold signal to the computer.
This cold signal will make the engine run rich (too much fuel).
Cold engines need more fuel to run so that is why it is rich when hot.
But...the computer has a separate sensor from the gauge sender.
Which engine is in your Pontiac? 2.2 or 2.4 ?
Let me know here and I will send you some location diagrams.
