Acer notebook wireless just connects when near to the modem...

If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem then - To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router and access the Internet via the DSL or cable modem.

There is a wireless button on your keybord platform area. Have you tried pushing it? It should have a little upright stick with commas on either side on the button (to look like a wireless signsl tower)?

the problem isn't the notebook it is the router.or wireless card.you probably have a wireless g card in the notebook and have a d-router.(not compatible wireless connectors)if it worked then stopped working then just unplug the wireless router for two min and plug it back in.it will reset and work if you had connection before.if that don't work post a comment and i will tell you another solution.

On the side edge or on the front edge of the laptop there should be a wireless switch or a clear button, when you activate it the wireless light should light up amber/orange.

Lim, sorry to hear about the virus attack. Hope you can get a better protection next time. I will recommend Avast Antivirus instead of AVG.

I had a similar problem.  When I reloaded Vista, I didn't use Acers disk.  Turns out I still couldn't use Wireless after loading all the drivers.  I had to FLASH the BIOS to get it to work.  The files are with the drivers.  If you made the drivers disk, it will be in a bios directory.  Otherwise just download the flash for BIOS from Acer.
