Question about ASUS A8N5X Motherboard

ASUS A8N5X Motherboard SPDIF no sound

Hrm.... I have tried updating the MB bios, Nvidia drivers, windows update, and still cannot get any sound or let alone at "light" from my SPDIF port. I do have normal sound using my analog ports. I am trying to go from my SPDIF port to a receiver so I can play it on some home surround system.

I have the cable but nothing.

Any suggestions?

Re: ASUS A8N5X Motherboard SPDIF no sound

Asus reports the same problem with for others updating your BIOS & they suggest you try this new link to BIOS 1003
Regaurding your trouble with the S/PDIF port, I found nothing in the FAQ section under the A8N5X. Suggest you call Asus Tech at 812-282-2787Tech IL Eastern time between 9:00am & 5:00pm. Your board is still warranted. Have handy the S/N printed on the serial port.

A8v deluxe have no sound after rebuild of system, have try different driver and update but still no sound

Did you checked the bios setting for your audio? It should be set to Auto. See the Advanced tab in bios, onboard Devices Configuration section 4.4.4 page 4-23 in your manual. On the other hand if you open windows device manager and within Sound, video and game controller you see either unknown PCI device or a yellow pair shaped icon with an ! point in it, than you'll need to install the audio software through windows device manager. Make sure your Asus driver CD is loaded into your CD-Rom drive. Open windows device manager again. Right click once on the unknown PCI device and left click once on update driver. Follow the on screen prompts. Point windows to the CD. You may need to open the driver folder on the CD and click on it once so it is high lighted. Than click OK. The audio driver software should install. If this fails to fix your issue than the onboard audio chip is defective. You can not repair this.
If your MB is still in warranty (Asus 3yr). You can RMA the MB.

Happy holidays!

Spdif not working

WHAT IS SPDIF? NEVER HEARD OF IT! Please, do not asume of any problems and next, please do not tamper withthe mother board. I go through many mother boards every day that have been tampered with... The information you have given me is not enough to draw conclusions on. We need the computer maker's name, model number. The ASUS number that you have given me is either incorrect or incomplete. ASUS prints their model, number in a place that is difficult to find it and become a screwdriver mechanic. Please look in between the PCI sockets on the bottom of the MB. The PCI sockets are those sockets that are white in color. There may be two, three or four. In between these sockets, you will find the motherboard number, as well as other information at times (serial number and version). The version also appears on the left top or left bottom, on the screen during the start up cycle. Once we have that info. we will begin checking the easy things first and gradually to the more advanced. Please, do not tamper with the MB. We appreciate your consideration of our service. Please return with the info. we get graded that way...

First off, go into BIOS at boot (hold del key) and make sure that your onboard sound is switched on.

Then check your device manager (control panel/device manager) to see if it identifies your sound chip.

Use right click/update driver/search online to see if microsoft can find it for you. If not, it is very likely a Realtek AC97 chip or similar. Search for this driver and go on from there.

Error loading operating system

You have to re-install your Operating System. You have significantly changed the controllers of the mainboard (from ASUS to GIGABYTE) and therefore all of the device drivers and controllers etc that are loaded into your OS are for the ASUS board.

You can get away with no OS reinstall only if you change the same brand of mainbaord, even then its not always 100% compatible.

Download bios and flash

Try Asus update first, found here:

It should check your current BIOS and download the newest one and install it automatically. If that doesn't work for you then you will need to update the BIOS from a bootable floppy disk using the two files found below:

The BIOS is here:

You also need the BIOS update tool found here:

A8N32-SLI Deluxe - Can not Load 'ASUS UPDATE' fro CD

It's not you. Asus's program from the CD doesn't function as you might except. You'll need to download, ASUS Update V7.06.02 Install Program for Windows 2000/XP/2003 & 64bit Windows XP/2003 within Bios Utilities. And flash your Bios from a floppy. Than download the Bios version you want. Having trouble getting the file to unzip? Download again but this time choose a different site. Like (Global) instead.

ECS GeForce6100SM-M Onboard Network Adapter does not show up in windows???

I had the same problem. Tyr this.. Install windows x64 1st install the ide driver (it's a setup program) reboot 2nd go to device manager, you will see a PCI bridge device, update that driver to the lan driver on the cd. reboot Then install the rest of the drivers. If you don't do it in that order you will NEVER be able to install the Lan driver without reinstalling windows.
