HP laptop display issue

My HP Pavilion dv6045nr will not show any display when booted up. Screen remains completely black, not just dim. Error code is 1 long beep, followed by two short beeps. Information I've found elsewhere indicates that may be a problem with the RAM, but I've tried replacing it and it had no effect. It has two RAM slots and I've tried swapping the cards, as well as running off one at a time. Basically i covered every possible combination of RAM placement, but got the same error every time. It was working one night with no indications of trouble, but a few hours later when I woke up it seemed that it would not "wake up." When I tried rebooting, I got the error beeps and it hasn't had a display since. I have NOT tried an external monitor yet, I would have to find someone with a desktop and don't know anyone off hand. I appreciate any help anyone can give!

Installed latest "critical" BIOS update. Now computer continually restarts after only a few seconds, and error beeps indicate a video card error. I have an NVidia GeForce Go 6150.

Note: Only the second "critical" BIOS update paragraph above is mine (jkg511). For some reason, my question was appended to another person's message.
My HP laptop is a dv9210us, but the startup problems after completing the BIOS update are the same.
My research indicates the long beep followed by two short beeps means a video card problem. Maybe HP's latest BIOS "upgrade" isn't compatible?

I have a HP DV9210US just like you out of the blue it starting acting up. Mine will start to boot, stay black then turn off and on again. If I keep playing I can get it to boot up. My error display said something about the display driver. i did a system recovery and it didnt work. I'll take any suggestions

Maybe your video card is disabled ,so you need to
Removing the RTC battery and leaving it uninstalled for 5 or more minutes causes CMOS settings to be cleared and everything will be reset as factory defult and you video card will be enabled.
hope this is going to help
good luck

Try fixing the loose wires beneath the TFT hinge, that connects the display panel to the driver.
Even my friend has the same problem with his dv2119tx, tried the same tricks with memory but did not work.
Finally he is resorting to fix the loose wire.
Good luck.

How do i fix my hp laptop screen displaying white

1) Check if the laptop is able to be shown on an external monitor. If it shows up, then it is a screen issue on the laptop.

OR

2) But if it doesn't show up on the external monitor, then its video problem on the laptop motherboard. The video chip is part of the laptop board, it solders on. So its not user replaceable like how it is on a desktop.

Desktop video, if the on board/discrete card doesn't work, then you simply get a video card and plug that into the computer. Install the new driver after removing the existing driver (on board or old video card) and then your good to go.

My HP Pavilion G6 laptop screen turns on and then goes blank (black)

When the screen turns on does it show anything or does it turn on and go to black?

If it goes to straight black it could be two things typically.
1. The LCD screen is having an issue. Connection cable / LCD screen itself.
2. The Graphics Card has gone out.

Hello There is chance of serious problem with the screen of the Your laptop. This problem is often seen in case of HP laptop which are more then 6-7 months old. So if the laptop is under warranty they(customer care) will replaced the screen for free. If not the will charge few $ and provide you with original screen. Please check with the vendor from where you have bought your laptop. Regards Gizokieth

HP laptop display issue

If you are recving 1 long and two short beeps, it is not a memory problem.
It is not a Lid closing or lid switch problem.
If you are able to switch to and from your LCD and Monitor, you are lucky.
I have been up and down the road with several HP DV6000 series units, all have had the 1 long and 2 shot beeps.
HP is aware of this problem and has offered an extended 1 year from date of original warranty expiration. Another words 2 years from date of purchase. HP will ask for $365.00 + or - ? for this repair.
Their repair consists of a motherboard replacement.

If you go to HP's web site, you can look up your model and if in warranty, have it sent back for repair.
The problem will not get better in time but only worsen. The heat sink on the dual core units is not handling the heat transfer properly.
The board is a 2 sided wafer which has displayed failure in several places, due to the heat load and transfer design. Area of problem is directly under NVIDIA chip look for craters. Theses are solder points the size of a pins head which because of the heat and the stress of the transfer bracket above, have separated making in some cases an intermittent connection to chip.
The best thing to do is have a technician remove the board from inspection and blow out the heat sink and surrounding areas.
Apply new heat sink tape and grease where needed and re-assemble.

You must update your BIOS ver. to current.
This new version will address the Voltage and Fan Control Speeds in a better manor.
If your unit is just now giving you these errors, now is the time to act.
Just like in a A/C unit at home, a restricted air flow will make unit run longer and hotter.
Their are no filters here, once lint and dust have collected in the coils, it is just a matter of time.
Hope this helps you in your problems.
Anybody reading this note having a DV6000 series unit, should check at their web site for warranty and call back issues.

P.S. if you are a technician and feel you want to repair the board yourself, drop me an email with the model number and I will explain in more detail.

Error beeping 1 long beep follow by 2 shorts beeps

i AM A LAPTOP REPAIR TECHNICIAN.AND I HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE WITH HP MODELS RANGING FROM DV2000, 6000 AND 9000 RANGE. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE ON BOARD NVIDIA GRAPHICS CHIP. THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE MOTHERBOARD.HP HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRENTY WITH THESE MODELS FOR AN EXTRA 6 MONTHS. BUT THIS RANGE OF LAPTOPS ARE A COMPLETE MESS. WIRELESS PROBLEMS ARE ALSO VERY FREQUENT.OF ALL THESE MACHINES THAT HAVE COME IN TO MY SHOP FOR REPAIR , THERE WAS ONLY ONE THAT I CAN REMEMBER THAT HAD A RAM PROBLEM. THE REST HAVE ON BOARD GRAPHICS PROBLEMS.

HP Pavillion Laptop

I have just experienced same p[roblem with my Pavillion laptop. Seems to be a graphics card problem. (Hp have issued extended warranties to cover this problem, which is apparently quite common in the pavillion range?)
I have had to send my machine back to HP to fix it. gah.
