The only way to change the 'size' of objects on the screen is tro play with screen resolution. On an empty place on your desktop, right-click then click on "Personalize". There are things in Display Settings, Screen Saver and Window Color and Appearance that can be used to modify how things fit together on your screen. Without more info on exactly what it is you want made smaller, this is intentionally vague.

LG screen goes in stand by. I was using two monitors for several months, everything OK, now I decided to get a new LG Flatron instead of one of the monitors... and only this one goes in safe mode!! Two...

oke having a similar problem atm, this is what i have found so far. was trying to help a friend who has bought the same 19" LG monitor. When i connected the monitor to her PC i noticed that it was not the same connection as the previous one but it had the smaller blue connection..this shouldnt be a problem but it was. The monitor when powered up, showed LG logo then went into power saving mode. My next step was to try the monitor on my own PC to make sure it was working, When i did this the monitor got a signal but on the initial boot it did say that this monitor was not compatible currently the way i had it set up ( where i had it plugged in? the only place it can be) because of my graphics card. oke so atleast i knew the monitor was working and was recieving a signal.

the only difference i can see is when i put it in her PC it is not giving me this information which also did give 3 steps to solving the problem but didnt seem legit. the next step i will take is to try my monitor on her PC although im not sure i expect it to work.

i think it must be a) PC is now faulty or b) PC is not sending a signal to the monitor ( possibly due to the fact it is not the same connection as before.)

what i have seen on other similar posts says you should also listen for your PC starting up normally.

another thing i would like to know i think it can be usefull for this topic. are the people who are experiencing this problem in the same situation as me i.e. changing the type of connection used by the monitor from the larger to the smaller type?

id also liek to note that the monitor i have was bought on a tight budget from PC world.

only other help i can give to people with this problem is that it is much easier to see where the fault is when you have 2 PC's and 2 monitors i know this is not viable for many but if atall possible interchanging parts with the PC that is working correctly and the one black screening can help you see exactly what the problem is,

as far as i know aswell the main reason for a monitor to sleep is that its simply not getting a signal from the PC BUT on rare occasions it can be a fault in the monitor. IF you have another monitor with the same connection that you can get yto work on the same PC its the monitor with the problem, if u have a monitor that u know is working on another PC with the same connection but is not working on the PC in questions its a PC fault.

sorry for the jumble of words in this answer i tryed my best to explain, all my knowledge of PCs is from friends and self tought so ... hope it helped

Are Dell monitors not compatible with older HP Pavilion Computer? I tried to connect my HP CPU to a Dell monitor and it will not recognize it at all.

It shouldn't make any difference which monitor you are connecting to any computer. In fact, I am running a 19" HP Flat Panel on my Dell Dimension 2400 right now. It is NOT a wide screen monitor as the Dell built in graphics card will not support the RESOLUTION RATIO required for the wide screen. Check what setting is "native resolution" for your monitor and see if your graphics card will support it. If not, using your old monitor, try different resolution settings. Right click on your desk top, click on properties and that should bring up the display properties box. Try a lower setting as larger settings are the ones that will give you a black screen. It will probably give you a smaller picture on your old monitor, or perhaps smaller or larger icons on the desk top. Accept the new settings, turn off your computer and switch monitors, and turn your computer back on. If you get a picture, but it does not fill the whole screen or the icons seem too large or small, then go back into properties from the desktop and try a different resolution ratio until the picture seems correct.

If the problem concerns the monitor settings instead, unplug monitor from power for two minutes to reset it.

The font size on my HP Pavillion N5445 is too large. When checking the text size, it is already on smallest and is still too large.

Are all fonts too large or just icon fonts?

You could reset the screen to a higher resolution. Please note that everything will appear smaller including webpages and desktop icons.
Click Start\Settings\Control Panel
Then Click Display
When the box opens click Settings
When the new window opens you will see an adjustment called "Screen resolution" and a slider marked 'more' at one end and 'less' at the other.
Most modern monitors are set to 1024 by 768 pixels or above. Try moving your slider to a higher setting then click Apply\Ok

Resolution

You could check your DPI setting in the display, being a large monitor your DPI setting shoul be up around the 75 - 85 Hertz.
To access this
Control Panel --> Display --> Settings --> Advanced --> Monitor and then click the drop down box and see what the DPI is set to and keep trying the different options until it is clear.
Hope this helps.
