I am having the same issue. I contacted att and they had no clue, other than the error msg is not coming from them. from what I can figure out is if you have an unlocked phone and more than one carrier in your area, these other carriers are receiving your signal and not recognizing it. but then again I'm no techno.
I have heard about this happening to unlocked phones on AT&Ts network. The best I can find is that the message is occuring because AT&T does automatic software updates based on your IMEI. The network checks on your phone at power up to see if any software updates are needed. If you are using an unlocked phone the IMEI is not one that AT&T has information on or your IMEI is not correct in the account. Motorola may be able to provide assistance in stopping the mesasage. or maybe AT&T can disable the updates.

Redd7780 I don't want to burst yoru bubble but... I have an unloced phone that I added to my AT&T account. I brought it in to the AT&T store since I have a moderate sized business account. They added the IMEI number to my account but I still receive the error. It only happens with certain numbers. Most recently it happens when I send to my buddies in Canada. I can send itnernational to all my other contacts and no issue with my domestic contacts. It's also sporatic - - some times it works others no luck.
