Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

VHS Tape I have a VHS tape of home movies that when placed in the VCR and played the numbers on the screen do not work when playing, REW or FWD they just stay at 0:00    When I play the tape it appears that nothing was recorded on it, but I'm certain there is since I wrote dates on it. The tape counter works on all of my other tapes, so I know it isn't my VCR.  I have tried changing the shell and the tape appears to fwd and rewind but the tape counter numbers still do not move and there still appears to be nothing on the tape.   HELP!! email any suggestions to me at Thanks

Re: VHS Tape

Possibly the tape is wound too tight and is not actually playing when in play mode.
Also, tapes can be accidentally erased. If it is placed on a speaker or other magnetized surface it will erase itsself. The magnet draws something out of it.
I'm not sure exactly how it works but I know it happens.
Don't give up just yet. Check with your local video rental store... maybe they know a trick that will help you.

Good Luck :)

The DVD works fine but the VCR doesn't play, rewind or forward tape.

l would have a look inside to see if when a tape is inserted it loads and will ff and rew, if the transport that moves the tape has failed it will account for what is happening.

I lost the remote control, how can rewind the hsv tape. Thanks.

There should be a rewind button on the front of the main unit (usually indicated by either REW or 2 arrows pointing to the left), this should be next to the fast forward (again indicated by either F-FWD or 2 arrows pointing to the right) as well as PLAY and STOP - for the VCR. The only thing you would need the remote for is to set the clock and/or perform setup for the DVD player as well as timer recording. Try a universal remote which will make fast forward, play, stop, record (to VHS) and rewind easier.

No Instruction Manual

1. Insert a blank DVD disc in the DVD deck and
close the disc tray.
2. Insert the VHS video tape you wish to copy into
the VCR deck.
3. Find the place on the VHS tape from which you
want to start dubbing using the PLAY, FF, REW
and PAUSE functions. For best results, pause
playback at the point from which you want to
4. Press the DUBBING button on the Remote
Control or DUB on the front panel.
The Dubbing menu appears.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the desired Record
Mode: EP, LP, SP or XP.
6. Select [Dubbing] then press ENTER or DUBBING
to start copying.
7. To stop dubbing at any other time, press STOP (x).
Dubbing will stop automatically when the VHS tape ends.

Not likely. They probably just need to be cleaned and re-alligned. Rates vary, but our shop charges $20 to do that.
