Returning erased files to the memory stick

I copied my pictures to my laptop and inadvertently erased them all from my memory stick. I copied them back to drive E: Sony Cybershot. In Windows Explorer, drive E shows that the files have been copied back to the memory stick. However, in my camera it says "No images". Why can't I view the pictures again in my camera?

Because it's a one-way street. From camera to computer works...from computer to camera doesn't.
