Cracked lcd tv screen

I was told that I would have to purchase a new panel. What might one cost? Is it better to just throw it in the trash because the cost will be to high?

Thanks for your help.

I have a 42" toshiba regza that barely got tapped by my fiance's little brat nephew. The warranty or the extended warranty that I bought from the store I got it from doesn't cover it. So I got a 1300 dollar piece of useless junk . And the kick in the pants is that I bought it a month ago. Is there no loophole or anything I can do

While cleaning rifle, rifle accidently went off and bullet went through coffee table ---bounced off floor and just penetrated screen of new 52" Samsung LNT5265F LCD TV.
Now I have a 1/2" hole in screen. Bullet did not penetrate anything other than glass and bullet most likely is laying inside glass.= I'm sick.
Am afraid to turn on power. One person told me that I should be able to see TV on all of screen except where hole is. What do I do first?

  • jacketman63 Dec 22, 2008

Ref. bullet hole in screen----Well, I turned on the power and was surprised to see the screen came on. Of course, it didn't where the bullet hole was and there were some multicolored horizontal and vertical  fine lines plus a long crack in the glass but I am going to try to use until I can find a used screen.

Is there any dangers, like mercury, if I use the 52" Samsung HDTV  like it is?"?

One other comment I would make is that as you know LCD and plasma tv's really break easily and they are as expensive as a new tv to replace. They arent like the old picture tubes where you could basically throw a brick at them. Even a light hit by a toy will crack the screens making them worthless. My suggestion is to pick up a screen protector once you get a new tv before an "Accident" happens. I bought one a few weeks ago from a place called tv armor.

So far so good.. Hopefully the kids wont take it as a challenge:)

You can search online secound hand or even craigslist or ebay for a used non working toshiba regza or same type of tv you need. if you get lucky you can find a replacement screen by buying a (as is) tv as long as the screen is intack you can switch it and repair your broken tv,
there are plenty of companies that sell for repair items on ebay some items have major damage some have minor that is what you can do to repair it.
if you want to buy a replacement screen you will find it is over 1400.$ just for the screen so your better of buying a non working model and exchange the screen..
hope this helps.

The retail price of new panel is expensive. It may cost you as much as to buy a new tv.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that you were cleaning a loaded gun that went off in the house!

I have a cracked screen when my tv is turned on where can I get it fixed?

The only option is to replace the screen. This usually isn't cost effective as the cost of a replacement panel could cost as much as a new TV. You now have a parts unit, throw that puppy on EBay or Craigslist as a parts unit!!!

Tip

What to do when you have a cracked LCD, LED or Plasma TV

Spending a ton of money on a new TV is the norm these days. Unfortunately televisions are not made like they used to be. Flat panel LCD, LED and Plasma TVs are very fragile. The picture area can be cracked by even light objects hitting the TV.

Once the picture is cracked there is no way to repair it. It needs to be replaced. TV manufacturers purchase LCD, LED and Plasma screens in large quanities and get a great price. When your local repair shop has to purchase a single replacement unit, you will often find it is as expensive if not more expensive then a new TV (if its even avaliable) when you factor in the labor costs. Usually you are better off replacing the TV with a brand new set the next time a good sale comes up then have it repaired.

You would think the TV's warranty or extended warranty you purchased would cover a cracked screen. Alas.. they don't. Every warranty I have ever read does not cover accidental damage. As soon as the repair person sees the screen is cracked, they will tell you the warranty does not cover it and you are out of luck.

While there isn't much hope for repairing your current TV, you can take some simple steps to protect your new TV from damage.

1. Mount the TV on the wall. Its a lot harder for little kids to hit the TV or throw something at the TV when it is mounted on the wall vs sitting on a stand.

2. Explain to the family how fragile the TV is. While this might seem obvious.. kids do know things until they are taught.

3. Wear the wrist strap while playing video games as recommended!

4. Pickup a tv screen protector from a company like TV Armor. They are designed to provide impact protection for the TV without affecting the picture.

Following these simple steps can keep you enjoying your new TV for many years to come even if you do have a budding baseball player at home.

I have a 55 inch Toshiba flat screen TV but the screen is cracked how much is it to fix?

It will cost more then the cost of a new TV to replace that LCD panel. 55" panel would probably be in the $700-$800 range. Walmart has new 55" LCD's in the $700 range. The TV is not junk, it has some value. Throw it on Ebay or Craigslist as a parts unit. I assure you someone will buy it. I'd ask for at least $100

Cracked lcd screen cost of repair

Bad news, the LCD screen is about 80% of the cost of a TV or monitor. You will be better off just purchasing a new unit instead of looking for a screen for that one.

Yes, thats correct.
If lcd tv screen got hit by some thing then lcd panel got cracked and does show distorted lines or cracks instead of picture and lcd panel have to be replaced that would cost you 70% to 80% of new tv price.
New TV is better option.

Samsung LNT1953H sound but no picture only white screen

1. Can you view a DVD correctly? Good video and sound?
2. If so, you can get an "external tuner" like the Digital convertor boxes that the government subsidized and hook that up to your cable....
It will work (if you answered YES to #1)

3. Cost to fix TV is around $120... (tuner board)
(Don't open TV ... high voltages in there...)
4. Cost to use an external tuner around $20
5. Cost to use only for viewing DVD's ... FREE

Hope this helps.
