Re: computer problem

Restart the computer and in the first 5 seconds press F8 key until boots on a page with some options click on the one say last know good configuration and restart the system this action will return your computer to the last day when the computer was working fine if does't restart again and press the F8 but on this time click save mode then check the hardware on device manager for missing drivers if there is nothing bad you may have to reload your windows or do a windows repair

MSI L1600 netbook seems to be stuck in sleep mode. The power also cannot be turned off - even removing the battery and replacing it.

try to boot the computer, if you hear the start up sound then mobo is not bad. this issue could be caused due to boot sector viruses as well. see if the back light turns on ..
check the settings in bios and try to run a recovery. if neither helps

I left my computer at a friends house for an hour and when I came back the screen is black, every once in a while you can barely see the start screen where your supposed to enter your password to log on, I...

It seems plausible that by your description the 3 year old turned the darkness on the screen all the way down. So I would try changing your brightness settings to see if that helped. It may also help to restart the computer. If your brightness is all the way up, and restarting the computer doesn't allow you to see anything (even in Post) then something more definitely happened.
