For a possible fix to your Sony KV-34XBR800, go here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=928945&page=4 for my post #108 for a step-by-step solution with pictures. $21.83 is all it cost me. I fixed my own TV as many others on that forum have. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you run into difficulties. -Dave

Your tv sounds fairly normal to me - there is a difference between a tv being switched off and being on standby. It is usual for a tv to need to be switched on manually and from there the remote would be able to switch it between on and standby.
Sometimes the "power" button of the remote only switches the set to standby and selecting a channel would switch it from standby...
Is there power to the receptacle it's plugged into?
Is it a GFI receptacle if so has it switched off? It could need resetting.
Are you turning it on at the remote? Try turning it on from the TV itself. Maybe the remote is not operating properly.
This is a frustrating problem, but more details are required to solve it. Have you found the power switch on the TV? Are the batteries installed properly (facing the right way) in the remote? Is the TV connected to a working power circuit? If power is getting to the TV and the power switch doesn't work, I'd return the TV.
Try changing the input device to something you are sure works. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.
Switch off the TV from remote, then switch off the on/off button on the TV, remove the plug pin from the power outlet. Cool off for 48 hours and then retry. If nothing works, better refer it to a qualified service technician.
If the red light won't come on it is not getting power.First, try plugging it in to a different outlet,or unplug one of the gadgets you know is working and plug the tv in there. You are simply switching. If you know that there is power coming from the outlet and it still won't come on then you'll have to check the cord;don't go much farther than that without expert help.

Your T.V. is programmed to store the last input you've selected. You have to manually switch it back to your T.V. channel input after each time you switch it to HDMI or any other input even when you turn it off. The "Source" or "Input" button on your original T.V. remote will change this.
