I am inheriting this machine at school (I teach the occupational diploma) and have no instructions or anything with it. I also need to order a needle for it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

One hates to be the bearer of bad news but, these little things are pathetic! No one that I know has been able to get one to work successfully.
Your best bet is probably to send the thing back and let your granddaughter work on YOUR nice machine!
Mine is learning that way and it is probably safer than trying to learn with a hand needle.
If it's an older mechanical machine, it is probably seizing due to lack of oiling and cleaning. The old oil turns to varnish and causes the parts to stick.
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or thread make sure bobbin is inserted correctly & that it's not damaged try changing the needle
The instruction book is fine, I am wondering what stitch length you have selected . I think, maybe you should call Singer at 1-800-4singer and talk to Customer service. I looked at your manual, and why would you have purchased a side cutter foot for this machine? Where did you buy it, have them teach you how it works. If you bought from a dealer, like Joann's fabric they give lessons for free on the machines that are purchased from them. And their prices are very competitive.
i have an old brother machine maybe back in the 60s-80s and the thread keeps coming out of the needle and i dont know how to do anything with the bobbin.i have no idea how to use the machine at all.i would love to learn any help.cant find any thing online to help.
Contact a Bernina dealer as Bernina Switzerland produce a series of charts for schools showing machines and overlockers. With full threading and machine descriptions.
