freezes for a second then continues to play

DRC-285 freezes up randomly at any point...watching any format of video USB or disk...turning on...ejecting...started infrequently then worsened now cannot even get to any screen.

My RCA DRC285 DVD player (4 months old) freezes up a few minutes into the movie and shows a screen with multicolored vertical stripes.  At that point it won't eject or even turn off.  Have to pull the plug to restart it.  Any ideas? I haven't taken any steps since I don't know what to try.
Suggest a new solution for this problem
