Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some great info on your machine

Sounds like your switch has gone.

Its simple to replace, only 1 "specialist" tool is needed, but you can substitute for a small screwdriver.

If you visit http://www.sparesaver.com/help-and-support/dyson-section/dyson-technical-advice-450/ they have alot of info on repairing dyson cleaners AND they sell the parts, cheapest ive seen online.

Yes, you probably need to replace the switch - call the Dyson helpline, they'll give you the info for your closest authorized repair dealer who will open it up and replace the switch for you.
