Question about Philips Magnavox 27MS343S 27" TV

TV Volume goes up when channel is changed Philips 20S240

My father in law has a Philips TV, model 20S240 C122. When he changes the channel on the TV either with the remote or by changing it directly on the tv, the volume briefly (for about 1 to 2 seconds) increases significantly, then returns to normal. Also when the mute is pressed (again, either by remote or on the unit) the volume goes to full blast.

What could be causing this? Is this a relatively easy fix? Does anybody know where I can get a service manual for this? My father in law talked to a tv repair shop and they said the IS sensor (I think he meant IR sensor) needs replacement. Does this make sense?

Re: TV Volume goes up when channel is changed Philips...

I don't think the IR sensor has anything to do with it. It sounds like a surface mount micro processor to me...

If the TV do not respond to remote control; to change channels, there are many possibilities. Check the infrared emission of the remote control first. Check it with fresh batteries. If the infrared sensor inside the TV is faulty, this kind of fault can happen. In other words, your TV need a through check up, which a normal user can't do with ease. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service centre. Electro help

TV keeps shutting off and changing channels

hide all your remote controlls and put some tape over the front cover of the tv where you think the remote control reciever may be , if this fixes it then it means something is amiss with a rogue remote , most likely batterys..could even be sunlight ??

Unlockin all the channels

In order to get all the channels u have to have the original remote or a universal remote that has a menu button, an enter button, and directional pad (the directional pad cannot control the volume and channels it must be for navigating). push and hold the menu button, the menu will appear then disappear, once it disappears release the button and enter 9876 then press enter. a different menu will appear and it will b three black lines, one at the top of the screen, one in the middle and one at bottom. the middle line has 3 sections the first part is the item number the second part is the description and the last part is the on/off switch using either a 0 or 1. push down on the directional pad until u get to the 00 factory settings 0 and change the 0 to a 1 with the right button on the directional pad. then scroll up to 20 channel lock 0 (i think its 20, it may be like 22 but it is in the twenties for sure) and change the 0 to a 1. then go back down to the 00 factory settings and change the 1 back to 0 then turn the tv off. when u turn the tv back on it will either automatically ask u to auto tune or u will have to go to auto program to program the channels. there are like 80 different menu items, be sure not to mess with any other ones unless u know what ur doing, u could cause ur tv not to function properly or even be able to turn on.

this problem frustrated me greatly and im very happy to help whoever i can with the solution

Sentry universal remote

I wish someone would bring a suit against any of these manufacturers using the term 'universal.'
At best, they are 'multibrand' and, with the proliferation of 'brands,' there never will be one that can rightfully claim to be 'universal.'
There may never be a code for your brand available in every remote.

The instructions for searching for a code are pasted below stolen from another site:

steps for programing the rmc10 sentry really big universal remote
1, Manually turn on the device(TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.
2. Press and hold the code search button until the red indicator stays on, then release the code search button.
3. Press and quickly release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, ect.). The red indicator blinks off once.
4. Press the Channel up button repeatedly(up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks off with each button press. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press channel down button to backtrack through the library until device changes channel. Pressing Channel up changes direction forward again.
5. Press and release Mute to install code.
