I am having the same issues and I cannot figure out what cable I can use since I do not have an iLink connection on my Laptop.

Makes no sense!

My new HP G5010EM notebook although it has a number of USB2 interfaces has no IEEE1394 neither PCMCIA slots.
Need to transfer from my Sony camcorder that requires IEEE1394 to my notebook for editing. Searching Google revealed no USB2 to IEEE1394 dongles / adapters.
As USB2 is self powered and faster that IEEE1394 surely it can cope with conversion from one to the other!

Cannot find the Handycam (Tape).
Check the i.LINK connection to the Handycam.
