I recently reinstalled windows xp professional on my laptop afetr a crash and now my wmp11 keeps saying
''no sound device installed'' how do I fix this?

Look for the correct drivers for your computer, such as a realtek HD sound adapter, AC97 card or creative sound blaster. if you look up the spec for your machine or look in the manual, this can help you identify the card you need, which you can then search for and get drivers for.

You will need to re-install the drivers that came with your laptop so that you can enable the sound device.
