Whirlpool DWF 407 IKEA Dishwasher ser...

Hello.
I hope someone can help us with this weird behavior of our dishwasher: It is a Whirlpool DWF 407 that we bought at IKEA 4 years ago. It worked fine for 3 years without having used it more than 3 times a week.

The machine first started about a year ago to not finish cycles (after 80% - beeping twice and blinking LED - usually before pumping water)
I managed to bridge the problem by running the ''END'' program that pumps off the water. This became frequent after a while.

Next the machine did not start cycles at all (on all programs the same): It pumped for 20 seconds, then again beeping twice and blinking. I managed to bridge this problem by pouring 5-10 liters of water into the machine before starting the program (so the pump would have something to pump) This worked only on the ''rapid'' program, but at least it would start cleaning. Then the program would run its usual 80%. I still would have to ''manually'' finish the cycle by running the END program.

Now it does the same on all programs - even the ''END'' program - with or without additional water poured inside before: It pumps for 20 seconds, then beeping twice and the LED blinking - that's it.

What can we do? Is it a mechanical or electronical problem? Getting a technician and replacing parts does not seem an option as the price for that will get close to buying a new machine. I apretiate any kind of suggestions. Than you very much!
Max

- Hi Ash and thanks for your quick answer. I looked and there is no water under the machine. In the meantime I tried to clean the optical sensor in the bottom of the machine - nothing. I don't know how to access the pump, but it seems to be working as the machine does pump out any water during the first 20 seconds of pumping. Any other ideas? Thanks, Max

- Hi again.
In the end I called the assistance and they changed the electonic device of the machine for about 180€. It was very expensive but now it works again.

Same problem here.  Bought the device 4 years ago from Ikea Germany. About a year ago we the same 80% problem and resorted to te same "solution". I had a service guy coming over and he said electronics would need to be changed which would be pretty expensive. So even he advised us to stick with a manual program change in the end. However, now it does not work anymore at all. Turning on, pump kicks in briefly, two beeps - endless loop... Any ideas appreciated /frank

Hi Max,

It is hard to diagnose the problem without inspecting the machine. But here are a couple of suggestions:

Turn machine off at the power source. See if you can remove the lower panel underneath the door. Not knowing the exact setup of this machine as I have not seen this model in Australia.
Sometimes you need to open the dishwasher door to get to some screws for the lower panel.

Once you have removed the panel look inside the floor- bottom tray. see if there is water sitting in the bottom tray. Sometime a leak in the dishwasher sets off the flood switch which stops your machine. The flood switch is set off by a floater, such as styrophome.

If you cant get the lower panel off, or it may not have one, pull the machine out from under the bench and just tip the dishwasher on its back and see if water runs out the bottom.

However, make sure you have disconnected the power and the inlet hoses and drain hose are clear. Also make sure the diswasher is empty and no water is inside it.

If there are no evidence of a water leak, check the water pump. If you know how to open it, then do so and make sure nothing is blocking the propellors.

See how you go with these and if still no joy, email me: ash@gapatm.com

I will see how I can help you.

Good luck.
Ash
