Is your sound device a PCI or add-on card?

Get CClean and run it. Free to get and use Use the two programs at the top left of the screen. Use it regularly.

Get Regcleaner from Conmodo and run it. Run it regularly

Roll over the stuff in the systray, if you dont need it to run, kill it.

Remove windows components you dont use (add remove software in the control panel)

Remove software you dont use.

Defrag your computer

Get Spy Bot- Search and destroy from PC World. Get the real thing ...it is free - forget the other stuff you see there that is $ you want the free one.

Run it ... it might take all night ...

Defrag again

Add memory if you can ... www.4allmemory.com will scan youf computer and make recommendationf for free.

Go to www.pcpitstop.com and let them scan your computer - they will give you complete and comprehensive reports on all aspects of your computer and offer tips to speed it up. They will even bench mark your computer and track it for as long as you want. No fee.

If that doesnt help, let me know and I will give you more ...

If you are serious --- do these things

Positive comments appreciated

Try these steps one by one:

1. Disable or uninstall startup programs.
2. Uninstall unused programs.
3. Defragment the hard disk. This is usually the culprit.
4. Free up disk space. This is another usual suspect.
5. Check the RAM contacts. Try removing and reinstalling the memory sticks.

Sometimes, the sound won't come up if your computer is having major slowdown. You can also try removing/disabling the sound card to see if that's the one causing the slowdown (faulty cards causes Window to keep trying).
