Question about Iomega NAS P400u (32371) 40 GB Hard Drive Array

Open Question

Iomega P400U I have an Iomega P400U that recently failed. Apparently during a remote firmware upgrade one of my co-works disconnected the power supply. Anyhow.. long story short we can boot the device and the hardware is functional but the OS was totally lost. I talked to Iomega and found I can get a new number one drive complete with OS however the cost is outrageous and I'd like to see about using 500gb drives to upgrade the capacity anyhow. Any idea what else I might do or use to make this system functional again. I've tried reloading it from scratch using Linux but its not that easy. I keep having problems seeing all the drives (still using 40's) etc... any help would be great!

SOURCE: Hard drives freezing up

Damaged drive controller on HDD a possibility. Pull drive and test as a slave to rule out a bad RAID controller. Let me know if the drive is failing under SMART setting in system BIOS upon boot.

Hello,I can connect to my iomega device fine via a windows 7 computer, but when I try it on my windows 8 it does not find the device, neither via localhost nor via the myiomega web interface.. which worked...

Windows 8 is not very friendly with much. you will most likely have to upgrade your devices to windows 8 compatible ones. The only other thing I can think of is a patch in software, firmware upgrade on devices not working or an emulator of some kind if they exist for you products.

Upgrading your Iomega P400U

I was trying to upgrade the capacity of the NAS by adding 320 gb hard drives. I kept running into problems with the bios not supporting the drives and not finding drivers for the system. I came across an Open Source program called FreeNas that solved all the problems. It works great.

Bought a new network hard drive 1tb iomega. Operating system requirements is XP. Saleman said it would update on line & work with windows 7. doesnot happen for me . Is it compatible or not? CD will not...

The drive will not update itself automatically. You will have to download the firmware update and update it yourself. You may also want to get the latest Manager software that is Windows 7 compatible.

Firmware Version 2.064:
Iomega Home Storage Manager (Windows)

I have a 4 computer network with an attached IOMEGA 250G Storcenter. on one system the drive suddenly went offline and I cannot get it back. it works fine on the other systems

I used the Windows network wizard and rebuilt the network. when it completed I was able to see the drive and map it. Apparently something happened in the network configuration.

Western Digital NetCenter crashed

Umm... it sounds bad. If you can't get the unit to power back on after your performed the firmware update, it may have power failed during the update... and "bricked" it. Try a different power source and see if you can get it to at least power up. If it won't, there is probably no way of recovering it. I'd suggest contacting Western Digital to see if they have a recovery process for a firmware failure. Is it still within the warranty period?
