Question about Sharp Aquos LC-32D40U Television

2 Answers

Turning off About a year and a half after I purchased the set it started turning off on it's own. The picture will go out on it's own but the sound is still there with a faint shadow of the show I was just watching. I have to turn it on and off to get the picture back, sometimes it will go for months with out this happening and other time it takes 20 times of me cycling the set on and off before the picture comes back on only to turn right back off again. I've had the back of the set off already to see if there was anything obvious, if it's a circuit card, I can swap those out myself. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You mentioned when the picture goes dark that you could still see a faint picture .The first thing youu should do is first update your tvs firmware .Go to Sharps website for firmware upgrade instructions. You should try this before you do anything else..

Hi dcough2,
haev you tried to unplug it for some minutes, and then connecting it back again?
Anothwr thing to revise is if the socket is used for more than devices than the TV, it could also be weak power, so your TV image fait, or go dark, or it just shuts off because it have not enough power to use.

You might also want to make sure its not getting to hot, if it is, it will just shut off by itself,
Also make sure it isnt full of dirt or dust. That dust or something else could be causeing some kind of short circuit.

A cheap and what could be a solution is to get a fan or compressed air and blowing it.
I suggest you ti try it, it the problem continues, That wont make the problem worse for sure.

I'm not sure if this model is the one that has resistors that go bad. You can actually purchase a pack of resistors in a kit. It will come with solder, the resistors and instructions. You can lay the tv out and take the circuit board out to find the blown components, and replace the bad ones. Takes about an hour start to finish and will cost around $65.00. It has been a few years since I did this, so I'm not sure on the price.

At 8 years age components are wearing out. It sounds like a power supply issue. It is not cost effective to repair.

Panasonic PT-61LCX65 61" Television Set Popped, Now Left with a Cicking Sound

Your problem more than likely lies in your lamp. The whirring noise you hear is the ballast trying to fire up the bad lamp. The lamp part # for your set is TY-LA1000 and can be purchased online at vance baldwin. This is something you can easily replace yourself and your owners manual will give you instructions. Hope this helps

Sound dubbing seems off

Is this only on some movies? Look to see in your options is you have and decoder settings. What audio format do you prefer, DTS or Dolby?
Sometimes you may get a unit in which the decoder is faulty. If you have warranty options, first use those to get you a new unit.

Buzzing noise, sound but no picture

It sounds as if the lamp needs to be replaced. The buzzing sound you hear is the ballast attemting to fire the lamp.

Horizontal lines on start up

I get the exact same issue, exepct now it never clears up. I have tried to find someone to come look at it but no one does "house calls" anymore and everyone I call makes it sound so easy to just toss this beast in a car and bring it in. One of the repair techs said the issue sounded like the board had been zapped by a lighting surge...but of course there was no way to be sure unless I brought the set in.
