My monitor has squiggly vertical lines. Turned off

my monitor has squiggly vertical lines. Turned off this a.m. Turned back on this evening. Don't look good! Is is time for a new one? Also, when i boot up it is telling me to insert boot disk! I turn it off and turn it back on and it will load. What is going on?
