Hook your video source up to the display (TV), and run your audio cables to an input on your surround sound receiver. Note which input the audio cables are hooked up to and set the surround sound receiver to that channel on the front of the receiver. For example, if you hook up the audio inputs to "AUX" in, then make sure you select "AUX" on the front of the receiver. If you hook up the audio input to "DVD" on rear of receiver, make sure you select "DVD" on the front of the receiver. The connections on the rear of the receiver have to match the selection on the front of the receiver. Make sure that the cables are hooked up to "INPUT" on the surround sound receiver. It doesn't matter how the inputs are labeled (DVD, AUX, etc.) they all do the same thing. Check volume and mute controls on receiver as well. I know it sounds trivial, but sometimes it's the little things that get overlooked and cause problems. I hope this helps and good luck.
